The Lucid Air Auditions for the California Highway Patrol
The California Highway Patrol is testing Lucid Air police cruisers based on the automaker's recent social media post.
Lucid shared images of the electric sedan modified with police lights, a crash bar, a PA system, and steel wheels.
Car and Driver reached out to Lucid for a full breakdown of the modifications, but we haven't yet heard back from the company.
There's a new sheriff in town, and he's driving a Lucid Air. That could be the case in some California towns in the near future. Based on Lucid's recent social media post, the electric Air sedan has been undergoing testing with the California Highway Patrol.

California's current fleet of patrol cars includes Ford Explorers, Dodge Chargers, and BMW motorcycles, so the addition of the Lucid Air would add something a little different to the mix. It wouldn't be the first electric car to join the Five-O, either, with Ford offering police versions of both the F-150 Lightning and Mustang Mach-E.
Lucid shared images of a modified version of the Air featuring police lights, a crash bar, a PA system, and a set of steel wheels. Car and Driver reached out to Lucid for a full list of modifications, but we haven't yet heard back from the company. It's also unclear which Lucid Air is taking part in the CHP testing. The sedan's electric powertrains range from the 430-hp rear-wheel-drive version all the way up to the Sapphire's 1234-hp all-wheel-drive setup.
As things stand now, the Air has more estimated range than any other EV available in the United States. The Air Grand Touring model currently tops our list of longest-range EVs we've tested, going 410 miles in our 75-mph real-world range test. Despite that, we think it's likely that the base Air Pure's $71,400 starting price will be the most enticing to law enforcement agencies.
