YouTuber, influence, and now professional boxer Jake Paul is known for his garish behavior, so it wasn’t too shocking to see him roll up into the Mike Tyson fight riding in Krew Kut. The custom 1992 Chevy 3500 dually was a legendary show vehicle but had fallen into a state of disrepair when Gas Monkey Garage acquired it, fixing the truck up to its former glory and then some.

Now the whole world has seen Krew Kut and a lot of people have questions. Some think the boxer had it custom made for the match with Mike Tyson, but the fact is it’s been around a long time.

When Gas Monkey Garage got ahold of the custom truck, it pulled out the old 454 that came from the factory and swapped in an LSX built to produce over 600-horsepower. Is that ridiculous for a lowrider pickup converted into one long convertible? Yes, but the entire build is over the top and unnecessary.
Take those flames: they matched Paul’s expensive but ugly outfit he wore for the fight, at least when it came to tackiness. When you combine all that with the entrance song, Phil Collins’ In the Air Tonight, a reference to the first Hangover movie, it just all fits and yet none of it does.
Gas Monkey did tone down the original interior when it reconditioned Krew Kut. It was a tri-tone scheme with blue, purple, and white, which was just horrendous. The Texas shop replaced all that with a more restrained black leather upholstery, dash, and carpeting. With that contrast it actually makes the body pop more, tacky flames and all.
Of course, Krew Kut is tubbed to keep the tires from throwing garbage all over in the open-top interior and engine compartment. The very rear of the interior contains the fuel cell and pump, because with this lowrider there’s no space for all that in the chassis.
We weren’t expecting to see Krew Kut Friday night, but most people didn’t even know what it was. But it seems from surveying social media the general consensus is, even though he won, Jake Paul’s entrance with the truck and song was just plain “cringe.”
