Join Road & Track for an Unforgettable Driving Adventure in Texas
The Texas Hill Country is a destination that every car enthusiast must visit at least once in their lifetime. From the open roads to the breathtaking natural scenery (including bluebonnets if you time it right) to unforgettable roadside eats (i.e. mesquite-smoked Texas barbecue), it has all the makings of a perfect road trip. That’s why we're heading back there on April 7-10, 2025 for our Beyond City Limits experience. Expect bucket list-worthy drives, track time at Circuit of the Americas (COTA), exhilarating excursions, relaxing stays, and good eats.
Back in 2022, we did a quick trip to Texas, which you can read about here, but for 2025, we’re back with a bigger and better itinerary. After all, if everything is bigger in Texas, shouldn’t the same apply to our rally? We’re looking forward to four days featuring a curated route of the very best roads the Hill Country has to offer.
Ever wanted to step into the shoes of a Formula 1 driver? Drive on the same track that hosts F1's United States Grand Prix on day one of Beyond City Limits. The trip kicks off with a track day at COTA, beginning with a welcome breakfast to get to know each other before conquering the 20-turn, 3.41-mile racetrack. We’ll also take on the skid pad course, tour COTA’s 22-story observation tower, and host a timed autocross competition, where the winner will take home a Beyond City Limits trophy (along with some serious bragging rights).
From there, we’ll head out for our first group drive of the trip—a quick jaunt to Hotel Ella, located in the heart of downtown Austin. We’ll settle in for cocktails and dinner at the hotel, then rest up for another invigorating day of driving.
On day two, we’re heading for the hills. The Hill Country, that is. After fueling up for the day with breakfast at the hotel, we’ll depart on our drive to Fredericksburg, making several pit stops along the way. First up is a tour of Petrol Lounge, Austin’s premiere automotive storage facility, to check out the sweet lineup of cars stored there. Up next, we head to the charming town of Marble Falls and break for lunch. For our final leg of the drive, we’ll continue on to Fredericksburg via the Willow City Loop, a private ranch road boasting breathtaking views of Texas’ native flora and fauna, before checking in to our digs for the next two nights: the newly opened Albert Hotel, nestled along Fredericksburg’s Main Street.
The theme of Day Three is R&R. The day will start with a joyride along the winding country roads to Enchanted Rock, a Texas state park with a truly majestic geological structure. After our morning drive, we’ll hang up our keys and board tour shuttles to visit local Hill Country wineries. After an afternoon of sipping and savoring the region’s finest wines, we’ll head back to the hotel and enjoy one final group dinner at the Albert Hotel—along with the presentation of the Beyond City Limits Awards
Our final day of the trip packs a mighty punch. The Twisted Sisters is an iconic drive that’s sure to thrill any car lover. The loop features countless bends, curves, and hairpin turns. Think Appalachia’s Tail of the Dragon, only much, much longer. And, of course, we’ll end the rally with barbecue (but with a twist)! We’ll sample barbecue classics and modern twists at the Texan-Korean fusion joint, Eaker Barbecue, as our adventure comes to a close.
Beyond City Limits is sure to be one wild ride! Not only is this a one-of-a-kind road trip experience, but it is also a chance to connect with Road & Track editors, special guests, and fellow enthusiasts. Applications are open and spots are very limited, so apply now while there is still availability. We hope you’ll come along for the ride.
