  • Rahal Letterman Lanigan announces it has signed Louis Foster to a multi-year contract to race in IndyCar, beginning in 2025.

  • Foster drove this year for Andretti Global in Indy NXT and won the championship.

  • The 21-year-old Briton joins teammate Graham Rahal at RLL.

The waiting is over for Louis Foster.

After a sensational season in the Indy NXT Series this year, it was assumed that Foster would land a spot at the next level for 2025. That move became a reality Wednesday with the announcement that Foster will drive in the IndyCar Series next season for Rahal Letterman Lanigan in the first year of a multi-year contract.

Driving for Andretti Global in the recently completed Indy NXT season, Foster won eight times and finished on the podium 12 times, breezing to the series championship.

The 21-year-old Briton joins driver Graham Rahal at RLL. Christian Lundgaard left the team at the end of this season to move to Arrow McLaren. Team co-owner Bobby Rahal said there has been no decision on naming the team’s third driver.

Rahal said Foster adds spark to RLL.

“I think it’s a good combination,” Rahal said. “I just liked the way Louis carried himself and how he acts, and I think he’s just a class guy. I think for sure that’s why we look at him as a long-term opportunity for us, because I think he can figure in races and in championships in the years to come.”

Foster left behind a successful run in Europe to move to the United States and pursue open-wheel racing’s top level.

“To be able to kind of realize the effort and the risk that we put into moving my entire life—at the end of the day, you come over to America to race,” he said. “And it wasn’t just flying back and forth. I was fully moved to America and really committed myself over here.

“For it all to pay off, it really does mean the world to me after these last three years of putting everything I have into this, and I want to continue to do that. This is where I want to be, and this is where I want to stay, and hopefully we’ll have a long career in IndyCar.”

Although he has raced at most of the IndyCar Series tracks, Foster said there’s much to learn.

“I think as a first year, for me, you’ve got to think the first half of the year is going to be definitely some growing pains, learning about IndyCar racing and really trying to understand it as much as possible and soak it all in.

“At the end of the day, I don’t know exactly what to expect, so it’s hard to give expectations now. But if I can leave the year with a couple podiums, top-five finishes, fast qualifyings, that’s what I’m thinking of and that’s what I really want to work towards.

“I think the biggest target for me is to get working well with the team and making sure we gel well and perform the best we can every weekend.”
