Yahoo Autos Corvette, Porsche 911 Top Most Dangerous Cars Study

When you think of the most dangerous cars on the road today, Dodges, Rams, Mustangs, and maybe Altimas come to mind. But a new study reveals none of those crack the top 10 and only the Dodge Charger appears in the top 20 at number 19.
That study, which was generated by iSeeCars using data from the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration’s Fatality Analysis Reporting System brings up some interesting results. The Chevy Corvette is number two, just barely behind the Hyundai Venue as the car with the most frequent occupant fatalities.
The Porsche 911 is number four while the Mitsubishi Mirage is number three. Rounding out the top ten are the Honda CR-V Hybrid, Tesla Model Y, Mitsubishi Mirage G4, Buick Encore GX, Kia Forte, and Buick Envision.
What’s so interesting about these results is how many of them have performed well in crash tests, something iSeeCars Executive Analyst Karl Brauer points out. “The models on this list likely reflect a combination of driver behavior and driving conditions, leading to increased crashes and fatalities,” Brauer explains.
In other words, it’s not just the vehicles themselves which are contributing to these numbers.
Driver behavior is huge and involves many factors like distraction, intoxication, etc. In other words, these results didn’t come about just because of one simple reason but instead are a confluence of factors. Some will still try to simplify them because that’s easier.
Still, the cars themselves are a big factor. When iSeeCars sorted data by vehicle size, to our complete lack of surprise it was subcompacts and compacts which by far had the highest fatal accident rate. That figure dropped significantly for midsize vehicles and further for full-size. Size does matter.
That’s true when just trucks are analyzed, with the top five all midsize models. You won’t find a Ford F-150 or Ram 1500 in the mix because those usually keep their drivers and passengers alive in a crash.
When it comes to overall brand performance, Tesla actually ranks at the top for occupant fatalities. So much for the electric vehicles supposedly being the safest in the world or whatever. Kia comes in at number two, then Buick, Dodge, and Hyundai to round out the top five.
