Armed Thieves Steal Chevy Silverado From Arizona Driveway

A community is rattled after thieves not only stole a nice Chevy Silverado HD High Country from a driveway but did so while training an AK-style rifle on the victim’s front door. We’ve seen this scenario play out before, but there’s a simple step you can take to help prevent your vehicle from being swiped. That said, there’s also a potential risk you also need to know about.

Surveillance footage of the theft shared on X by Trenton Hooker from Fox 10 Phoenix shows the truck thieves roll up in a white Camaro, which most definitely is stolen. They get out and go to work immediately, each guy knowing his role.

While one disables the horn so the alarm won’t sound, another trains his firearm on the front door in case the owner receives a motion alert from his camera.

Another uses a device to capture and amplify the signal emitted by the key fob inside the house. This is called “spoofing” where the vehicle is unlocked and the engine started by tricking the system into thinking the key fob is nearby.

With the truck started, they pile in and are gone in mere seconds. And just like that, a truck easily worth north of $80,000 is gone.

The way you can stop a theft like this from happening is to put your key fob in a Faraday cage. They’re cheap and readily available on sites like Amazon. This blocks the signal so thieves can’t spoof your vehicle.

However, there’s a risk to this strategy: some thieves, already armed like these guys are, have decided to perform home invasion robberies to take the keys. Many won’t do that, but you should absolutely reinforce your home’s security because that’s where we’re at. Thieves feel emboldened and some will take your stuff by force if necessary.
