Six months after a 1967 Dodge Dart was stolen in Fresno, California it was an anonymous tip that led to its recovery and the arrest of the alleged thief. Stories like these show that even if your car has disappeared for months, there’s always a glimmer of hope that it will be found again and returned in good condition.

Lest you think the classic Mopar was just left sitting in plain view, the owner was storing the ’67 Dart in his garage when someone helped themselves to it. The man was understandably upset, thinking that it was either kept locally and someone knew about it or that the classic car had been shipped to the other side of the country.
What makes this case so interesting isn’t just that an anonymous tip came in through Crime Stoppers, leading to the Dodge’s recovery and the suspect’s arrest, says KMPH. The real twist is that according to the informant, the suspect was telling people the vehicle was stolen.
Why he would spread that around is a mystery, other than the usual dumb criminal thing. When police got the tip they realized the suspect was someone familiar to them, having past brushes with the law that included car thefts.
Investigators took the tip seriously, did some digging, and went to arrest the suspect, finding the Dodge Dart in the process. Then they were able to turn it over to the rightful owner for a tear-filled reunion.
Not only was the classic car still in one piece, the owner found all the documentation he had left in the glovebox was still there. That’s amazing after six months nothing was lost. Most times the vehicle is never recovered or is found in pieces.
Because most stolen car stories don’t have such a nice ending, when we find one that does it’s a nice break from the vicious reality most victims endure.
