Nick Kyrgios' ex spotted in fellow player's box at US Open

The US Open romance rumour mill is in full swing, with Nick Kyrgios' ex-girlfriend right at the centre of it.

Tennis fans have already been going wild throughout the tournament over the love match that is Elina Svitolina and Gael Monfils.

Now it seems, there is a new loved-up tennis couple and Ajla Tomljanovic - the former girlfriend of fellow Aussie Nick Kyrgios - is one of them.

The other - if recent signs are anything to go by - is Matteo Berrettini.

The Italian has taken the US Open by storm on the court after becoming the first Italian man to reach the semi-finals in 42 years.

Berrettini, the 24th seed, matched Corrado Barazzutti's run to the last four in 1977 after outlasting 13th-seeded Frenchman Gael Monfils 3-6, 6-3, 6-2, 3-6, 7-6 (7/5) in three hours and 57 minutes.

Right there in his box to watch the Italian's heroics was Tomljanovic and eagle-eyed fans were quick to point it out.

Of course, it's not the first time the pair's rumoured relationship has circulated on social media.

The tennis stars, along with young fun Felix Auger Aliassime were also snapped enjoying dinner together at a New York restaurant.

Like Tomljanovic, Ukrainian Svitolina was also in the player's box of Monfils as the Frenchman crashed out in one of the matches of the tournament.

While it seems apparent that Tomljanovic has found another tennis star to move on with, Kyrgios looks to have done likewise.

The 24-year-old was spotted watching Russian Anna Kalinskaya earlier in the tournament and the pair have been spotted together socially as well.

Nadal awaits Italian ace in final four

Berrettini will meet three-time US Open champion Rafael Nadal for a place in the final after the Spaniard downed Diego Schwartzman 6-4, 7-5, 6-2 in their quarter-final.

Second seed Nadal -- a winner at Flushing Meadows in 2010, 2013 and 2017 -- beat a spirited Schwartzman for the eighth time in as many meetings in a nearly three-hour match that finished early Thursday morning in New York.

Schwartzman put up firm resistance against Nadal and twice fought back from double-break deficits in the first two sets, but the Spaniard found another gear at crucial moments to secure an eighth semi-final berth in New York.

"Straight sets but big challenges especially after the first two sets, having 4-0 and 5-1 and losing both breaks in a row, but I know how good he is when he's confident," Nadal said.

"I'm so happy how I accepted the situation and challenge and kept going, point after point. Here I am in the semi-finals. I'm super happy, it means everything."
