Ball boy's coffee delivery goes hilariously wrong after Venus Williams loss

One unfortunate ball boy briefly stole the show at the US Open as he tried, unsuccessfully, to deliver a cup of coffee to Venus Williams.

Any approach to tennis royalty would be nerve-wracking regardless, but the young man’s attempt to deliver the coffee, which had been passed down to him from the stands, went awkwardly awry.

As Williams’ entourage handed the ball-boy the cup (no word yet on how Venus Williams takes her coffee), the former US Open winner was already making her way off the court.

By the time the young man had caught up, Williams had already made her way towards the locker room.

After a brief pause, the ball-boy (wisely) decided not to follow her in, instead opting to return the coffee to Williams’ entourage.

Williams perhaps could have used the coffee, going down to Elina Svitolina in straight sets, 6-4, 6-4.

The second-to-last game of the match, which Williams won, was a great representation of the whole.

It seesawed back and forth for nearly 15 minutes, with 8 deuces and 5 match points. Williams staved off certain elimination each time, battling to get herself one more chance to turn it around.

She eventually won the game to make it 5-4 in the second set, but the final game went by in a flash and ended with Williams hitting the ball out of bounds to give Svitolina the win.
