US athletes have reacted with disbelief and anger after watching the ‘disgraceful’ scenes unfold at the US Capitol building, which left a nation and the world in shock.

A violent mob of President Donald Trump supporters stormed the US Capitol on Wednesday (US TIME), forcing Congress to lock down as it prepared to affirm President-elect Joe Biden’s victory in the 2020 election.

At least one person was shot and died during the riot.

Many US athletes, including NBA star Stephen Curry, pointed out the hypocrisy from Trump after the president’s rhetoric in a tweet back in July over the social and racial injustice protests across America.

NFL star Robert Griffin III said the ‘difference in the treatment’ between white and black Americans was in full display for the world to see with many of the Trump supporters storming the Capitol building going unpunished.

This point was echoed by NBA star Isiah Thomas and Kevin Love.
