'They need our help': UFC's incredible gesture for Australian bushfire relief

The UFC and Conor McGregor have teamed up to help raise funds for the Australian bushfire relief appeal ahead of the main event on Sunday (AEST).

Conor McGregor is making his return to the octagon against Donald ‘Cowboy’ Cerrone this weekend, but has also made time to appear in a video to help raise funds for those affected in Australia.

McGregor urged fans to purchase the merchandise, which features a heart in the middle of the outline of Australia, with all profits going to the Red Cross Disaster Relief and Recovery Fund.

UFC boss Dana White also took to social media to advertise the cause and urged supporters to get behind the initiative.

“For years, Australians have been among the most passionate, supportive UFC fans in the world, and now they desperately need our help,” the UFC store read.

“The Australia Relief & Recovery T-Shirt is a great way to show your support for the devastation happening to our neighbouring friends down under.”

The support was overwhelming with the shirt currently sold out.

Masvidal wants to help Australia

Jorge Masvidal will be visiting Australia in Feburay and has expressed his desire to help those affected by the bushfires.

Having heard about the out-of-control bushfire devastation in Australia, Masvidal has offered to spend time in the affected areas to help out where he can.

“I think could I could be of great help, Australia has been so good to me….then I hear about this fire,” he told Yahoo Sport Australia.

“Even if it’s just me running back-and-forth and I could save somebody’s life or home. I am in. It is no problem for me, thank goodness I wasn’t born with that fear thing.

“I am a hard worker and why can’t I go put out some fires. If I can save somebody’s home, count me in.”
