'Back to work': Fans erupt over Roger Federer development

Roger Federer delighted fans after posting a picture of him back at training after a long lay-off due to a reoccurring knee injury.

Federer has been out of action since the Australian Open where he lost to Novak Djokovic in the semi-final.

The 20-time Grand Slam champ also announced during the coronavirus pandemic lockdown he would be taking the rest of 2020 off after undergoing a second arthroscopic procedure on his right knee.

But after spending the majority of 2020 on the sidelines, Federer posted a photo of him back at training.

With plenty of Europe still suffering from a rise in coronavirus numbers, it appears Federer is training from his own court in Switzerland.

He captioned the photo: “Back at work”.

Fans were rightfully excited at the new development.

Federer puts to bed retirement rumours

Despite telling fans he wanted to return for the 2021 Australian Open, doubt remained over whether the 39-year-old maestro would return after yet another setback.

However, in a recent interview with Tennis.com, Federer joked he had been asked that question so many times it made him “angry”.

But after trolling the interviewer, Federer said he was ‘definitely’ not calling it quits anytime soon.

“I feel like maybe there’s a little bit more left in me,” Federer said.

“And if not, that’s it too. I’m definitely not stepping away [from] the game right now.”

Federer said his ambitions haven’t changed and is looking forward to getting back on the court and pushing the other legends of the game.
