Eugenie Bouchard 'never playing again' after brutal online trolling

Eugenie Bouchard says she’s never playing tennis online again after going 0-3 at the virtual Madrid Open and suffering some brutal online trolling to boot.

The Madrid Open was cancelled this year due to the coronavirus pandemic, so they decided to go online instead.

A number of the game’s biggest stars have been battling it out in the virtual world, playing a video game as themselves against their opponents.

However it looks like Bouchard’s days in virtual tennis are over after she lost all three of her matches on Wednesday.

“I’m trying so hard not to swear right now,” she said.

“I can’t believe I woke up today and lost three matches in a row. I’m so p***ed.”

The Canadian star then posted a selfie on Instagram and wrote: “I’m never playing this tennis game again.”

Bouchard’s struggles in the virtual world echo those of real life.

The former World No.5 and Wimbledon finalist has endured a horrible run over the last few years, seeing her ranking plummet all the way to No.332.

Predictably, she copped some unwanted abuse from fans after her efforts at the virtual Madrid Open.

“It’s not realistic unless you get eliminated in the first round,” one social media user wrote, to which Bouchard responded: “You’re hilarious!!”

Before the event another user wrote: “You might finally win a tournament” with laughing emojis.

Bouchard’s agent even got in on the act, sending her a message saying: “You lost again?”

Murray and Wozniacki roll into semi-finals

Andy Murray rolled into the men’s sem-ifinals on Wednesday with a dominating 6-1 victory over Germany's Alexander Zverev.

After the easy victory, Murray cracked, “I'm just much better than the other guys. That's the reality.”

Murray will face Diego Schwartzman in Thursday's semi-finals after the Argentinian posted a 6-3 victory over Italy’s Fabio Fognini in the quarters.

Greek Stefanos Tsitsipas and Belgium's David Goffin will meet in the other men's semi.

On the women's side, Caroline Wozniacki needed seven minutes to finish off Brit Johanna Konta in a 6-0 trouncing.

Wozniacki faces Dutchwoman Kiki Bertens in the semis. Bertens, who won the actual Madrid Open title in 2019, defeated Swiss Belinda Bencic 6-4.

“This is more frustrating than tennis,” Bencic said after one Bertens volley landed for a winner. “It's like real life against you.”

Romania’s Sorana Cirstea also advanced to the semis with a 7-6 (4) triumph over Canada's Bianca Andreescu.

Cirstea next faces France's Fiona Ferro, who was a 7-6 (3) winner over Vekic.
