New details have emerged about Lleyton Hewitt and his family's relocation from Victoria to Queensland, with the move reportedly centred around son Cruz.

Hewitt and wife Bec recently splashed around $4 million on a Burleigh Heads mansion on the Gold Coast after selling their Melbourne home for $15 million.

The Hewitts bought the five bedroom, seven bathroom property in 2016, reportedly for $12.7 million.

However they've now upped stumps and moved north, settling on the Gold Coast.

While mystery still surrounds the huge change, details have emerged about the Hewitts' desire to help son Cruz further his tennis career.

The 13-year-old is a budding tennis player just like his father, with reports he could be as good or even better than Lleyton.

The move to the Gold Coast is believed to be designed around the KDV tennis academy in Carrara, where Cruz will be able to train.

The $20 million facility at Carrara was built in 2016 by Russian tycoon Denis Shtengelov and features a mix of hard and clay courts.

"It's understood Cruz's dad Lleyton was drawn to the Coast's many sprawling tennis centres - made up of a mix of grass, clay and hardcourt surfaces - as well as the multi-million dollar 'champion factory' KDV tennis academy located in Carrara," the Daily Mail reports.

"The state-of-the-art centre - which includes 20 courts, hotel accommodation, gyms, a pool and driving range - will serve as a makeshift base for Team Hewitt as Cruz continues his rise through the international junior ranks."

The Daily Mail quoted a 'local insider' that: "The move is very much a sign that the Hewitts are getting progressively more serious about Cruz's potential as a future world top-ten player."

Cruz Hewitt a tennis superstar in the making?

Earlier this year, Cruz won the Australian 12-and-under clay-court title.

He didn't drop a set in five matches in Canberra, while also winning the 12-and-under doubles title with Asher Brownrigg.

Cruz is believed to be somewhat of a clay-court specialist and has dubbed himself #ClayDog on Instagram.

“So proud to take home the title in the clay-court nationals. Had a great week in Canberra #claydog,” he wrote.

Lleyton and Bec Hewitt have been married since 2005 and have three children together - Mia, 15, Cruz, 13, and Ava, 10.

Lleyton won the US Open title in 2001 and Wimbledon in 2002.

He became the youngest-ever male World No.1 in 2001 and went on to win a total of 30 singles titles on the ATP Tour.

The 40-year-old has since moved into commentary and coaching and currently serves as Australia's Davis Cup captain.
