Paul Green quits the Cowboys after diabolical start to 2020
NRL premiership-winning coach Paul Green has quit the North Queensland Cowboys after seven years as head coach, the club announced Monday.
The Cowboys have endured a tough run in 2020 and his last game in charge was the weekend’s 22-10 defeat at the hands of Penrith.

Green released a statement following the news.
“After seven years as head coach it is with a heavy heart that I make this announcement”, Green said on the club’s website.
“The Board felt that the club was at a juncture where they needed to move in a different direction, and I can only respect their views.
“Whilst this is obviously disappointing news, I am grateful to the Board for allowing me to lead this club whilst creating some lifelong memories.
“I will use this next period to freshen up, spend some time with my family and assess options before moving on to my next coaching role”.

Assistant Josh Hannay will take over for the Cowboys for the season's remaining 10 rounds.
Green third NRL coach to be sacked in 2020
The Cowboys missed the finals in 2019 and the club’s prospects this year do not appear any better.
Green’s departure makes him the third NRL coach to be sacked this year after the Warriors’ Stephen Kearney and Dean Pay’s exit from the Bulldogs.
Green coached the Cowboys to their historic 2015 premiership win after Jonathan Thurston helped his team to a 17-16 Golden Point win over the Brisbane Broncos.
