NRL player investigated over wild street brawl video

St George Illawarra star Corey Norman is being investigated by the NRL's integrity unit for his alleged involvement in a street brawl in Cronulla on Friday night.

The incident was filmed by a bystander and aired by Channel 7 on Sunday showing a group of men pushing and shoving in an alley before punches are thrown.

It's unknown what involvement the 29-year-old former State of Origin star had in the brawl, but the club is investigating along with the NRL.

An NRL spokesperson said: "the NRL Integrity Unit is aware of the video and investigating the matter."

It's alleged former NRL player James Segeyaro was also involved in the incident.

No arrests were made and NSW Police had not received a complaint as of Monday morning.

Norman is in the final year of a lucrative three-year contract with the Dragons, where he has played 37 games since the start of 2019.

The 29-year-old playmaker is one of the highest-paid players at the St George-Illawarra club.

The Dragons have been contacted for comment but are yet to release a statement.

Latest controversy in NRL off-season

The incident is the latest off-field scandal to hit the NRL off-season, with Brisbane's Payne Haas charged over an incident in Tweed Heads earlier this month.

The forward was arrested and charged with abusing and intimidating police after being apprehended by authorities at about 10pm on January 16.

The 21-year-old was detained by police and taken to Tweed Heads police station where he was charged with "with offensive language and intimidate police officer".

He was granted conditional bail to appear at Tweed Heads local court on February 2, with the incident also part of an integrity unit investigation.

It came after the Brisbane squad started their day with a training session on the Gold Coast.

While a rising star of the game, it’s not first time Haas has been summoned by the NRL's behavioural watchdog.

Haas was fined $20,000 and suspended for the opening four rounds of the 2019 NRL season for failing to comply with an NRL integrity unit investigation over a matter involving members of his family.

Broncos CEO Paul White said in a statement after the incident that Haas was "ashamed and extremely remorseful".

"It's disappointing and not acceptable - we do set the highest standards for the behaviour of our players, they understand that and Payne knows this is well short of those standards," White said.

"Payne knows he has done the wrong thing and is prepared to take ownership of his actions.

"As a club, we will continue to work with Payne to ensure he understands what he must do to improve, and also ensure he continues to receive the support and education that he needs."
