'Unacceptable': Broncos coach, players condemned over latest 'disgrace'

Commentators, former players, club legends and fans are lining up to take a shot at the Brisbane Broncos after their latest embarrassing loss in the NRL.

A ruthless Wests Tigers battered the Broncos in a record-breaking nine-try romp on Friday night.

Tigers duo Luciano Leilua and Luke Garner bagged two tries each, while five of their teammates also scored in the 48-0 thrashing.

The chastening loss is the latest for under-fire coach Anthony Seibold, whose job appears to be hanging by a thread.

Seibold's side has won only one match since the season restarted from the COVID-19 break - last week's victory over the Bulldogs.

Any hopes off that win being a turning point for the side were shattered by the Tigers, however, after they recorded their first shut-out in eight years.

Seibold was already under pressure to keep his job after a run of shocking defeats in which the Brisbane defence has leaked points at an alarming rate.

The coach pointed to his side's heavy injury toll after Friday night's loss but was at a loss to explain the latest worrying defeat.

He couldn't escape the intense spotlight from commentator and fans, who insisted that drastic changes were needed at the Broncos, and fast.

“He’s under enormous pressure, Anthony Seibold," Fox Sports commentator Greg Alexander said.

“And at the moment he’s allowing players that just are doing the jersey no justice to dictate his future.

“Unless he makes some tough decisions and gets rid of some senior players or at least drops them out of the team, the rot will continue.”

Channel Nine's Peter Sterling and Andrew Johns agreed, conceding that it will be almost impossible for Brisbane's board or the coach not to swing the axe.

"We saw the pressure that Anthony Seibold was under after that six-week spell, it was relentless and it's only going to increase," Sterling said.

"I know as a club, coach and players you can't listen to outside noise, but this is going to be deafening."

The Courier-Mail’s chief NRL reporter Peter Badel labelled Seibold a "dead man walking" in a scathing column about Brisbane's latest capitulation.

While much off the focus has been on the coach, senior players Anthony Milford and Darius Boyd are also coming under fire, with many insisting the pair should be dropped.

"Unless he (Seibold) makes some changes and drops some experienced players, (Anthony) Milford for one, Darius Boyd hasn't been performing... he has to go," Johns said.

Alexander described some of the changes made by Seibold as "cosmetic" and agreed that Milford and Boyd simply weren't performing to the required standard.

“Your senior players are letting down the younger ones, Darius Boyd and Anthony Milford – the left side defence was atrocious," Alexander said.

“Absolutely atrocious and I could not have those two in the team next week.

The criticism of the Broncos was just as fierce from fans on social media.

Brisbane likely to make big changes

Seibold appears set to make wholesale changes to his line-up following their latest inept performance, this time to the Wests Tigers.

Seibold hit out at his team's lack of resilience following their 48-0 no-show at Leichhardt Oval - their heaviest defeat against the Tigers in their history.

"Just a lack of resilience. We lacked toughness. Nothing else to say about that," Seibold said post-game.

Their capitulation was compounded by a sickening leg fracture to winger-turned-forward Corey Oates in the second half on Friday.

Oates was rushed to hospital and will remain in Sydney, where the club will hope to learn how long it will be without their State of Origin representative.

However, his injury will be the least of Seibold's problems after his side slumped to their seventh defeat in their past eight games.

Their disastrous effort again prompted calls for halves Anthony Milford and Brodie Croft, the latter of whom had a horror defensive night, to be axed.

"Anthony Seibold has been more than accommodating with the team he's stuck with over the last seven weeks," former captain Corey Parker said on Fox Sports.

"There comes a time where you just can't do that anymore.

"There's some individuals in that side that just aren't up to the standard that they are required to be and it's unacceptable."

Seibold agreed the team's performance was inexcusable, but also said changes would be difficult with the amount of talent in the injury ward.

Oates joins a lengthy list that includes Matt Lodge, Kotoni Staggs, Jake Turpin, David Fifita, Jordan Kahu, Jack Bird and skipper Alex Glenn.

Lodge, Staggs and Turpin could be back next week.
