Alfie Langer and Broncos staff in fresh NRL COVID breach

The Brisbane Broncos are the latest team to be involved in a biosecurity breach scandal after three staff members were placed on ‘COVID Holds’ ahead of their clash against the Rabbitohs.

On Thursday, the NRL stood down Rabbitohs coach Wayne Bennett and Dragons forward Paul Vaughan after beaching the code’s biosecurity protocol.

Now the NRL has been made aware Brisbane club legend and trainer Allan Langer, a part of Anthony Siebold’s coaching team, reportedly visited a pub with staff members Ryan Whitley and Blake Duncan.

The Brisbane Broncos released a statement saying they had been made aware of the incident and the trio wouldn’t be travelling to Sydney.

“Three Broncos staff members will undergo COVID-19 testing after attending a private function in Brisbane,” the statement read.

“The club became aware of the matter today involving football staff Allan Langer, Ryan Whitley and Blake Duncan, and contacted the NRL immediately.

“As a precaution, those staff have been placed on “COVID Holds”, and will undergo testing before returning to the Project Apollo bubble.

“To adhere to best practice, the staff members won’t travel for tonight’s game in Sydney against the Rabbitohs.”

Wayne Bennett and Paul Vaughan stood down

On Thursday, the NRL stood down both Bennett and Dragons forward Vaughan for two weeks after the pair breached the code’s strict biosecurity bubble in seperate incidents.

On Thursday The Daily Telegraph first reported the South Sydney coach visited an Italian restaurant in Leichhardt with his partner.

Also on Thursday, Vaughan acknowledged he had visited a cafe in Illawarra, thus breaking the NRL’s biosecurity protocols.

Following an investigation into the incidents, the NRL slapped both with a two-week ‘COVID hold’.
