Newly signed Canberra Raiders second-rower Adam Elliott's NRL career was in serious jeopardy just two months ago.

The 27-year-old had his two-year, $1 million deal with the Canterbury Bulldogs torn up after a public scandal with NRLW star Millie Boyle, in which the pair were discovered kissing in the men's bathroom of a Gold Coast restaurant.

Staff at the restaurant had to find keys to unlock the cubicle the pair had confined themselves to, with Elliott being escorted from the premises without his shirt.

The incident ended Elliott's career with the Bulldogs, but with Elliott agreeing to a one-year deal with the Raiders, the 23-year-old Brisbane Broncos star decided the time was right to reveal the pair are in an ongoing relationship.

Making their tryst public on Instagram, Boyle referenced the Gold Coast scandal by captioning a picture of her and Elliott 'Lost a milli. Gained a Milli'.

After the scandal first broke back in August, Boyle insisted that despite the circumstances under which the pair were discovered, no more than an 'innocent' kiss had taken place.

Elliott had already come under fire following the Bulldogs' 2018 NRL premiership victory, having been fined $25,000 alongside teammate Asipeli Fine for wilful and obscene exposure during the team's Mad Monday celebrations.

Prior to the 2021 season, Elliott undertook alcohol counselling after an incident involving former teammate Michael Lichaa and his fiancee.

In an interview with the Daily Telegraph, Boyle said that despite being a 'private person', the pair were indeed an item and had been close friends for quite some time.

“I’m normally private with this sort of stuff,” Millie said.

“But we are together. I explained at the time we were both single and mates from a long time ago.

“Adam is now playing in Canberra and I’ll be in Brisbane. We’ll see how we go from a long distance.

"Hopefully Covid allows us to catch up. I’ll watch some of his games and he can come and watch mine.”

Adam Elliott's career saved after Canberra Raiders signing

After years of off-field controversies, Elliott says he is determined to redeem himself at the Raiders under head coach Ricky Stuart.

The Raiders have had some swings and misses hoping to re-ignite the careers of several troubled players in recent seasons.

In an interview with the Sun Herald, Elliott said he was determined to prove his detractors wrong during his time in Canberra, adding he was the only one responsible for the position he finds himself in now.

“The mistakes I’ve made, nobody else is responsible for them but me,” he said.

“I’ve never felt entitled or played the victim card.

“You are the only one responsible for what happens in your life.

“And when I go to Canberra, I’ll be 100 per cent responsible for what happens there and how I behave. I actually can’t wait.”

Raiders coach Ricky Stuart said he was swayed by Elliott's desire to live in the bush capital, with Ellitt having grown up in the regional town of Tathra.

"When a kid tells me he wants to make Canberra home, given he's originally from the region, it means a lot to me," the coach said in announcing Elliott's arrival on a 12-month deal.

"Rugby league is layered with redemption stories. I just hope for Adam and his family, this is another one of those because I know he’s going to be joining a very strong club.

"A number of our leaders have supported Adam in joining us and that gave our club confidence in moving this direction."

Time will tell if it all works out but the scepticism is palpable.
