NBA Draft: Who are the best rookies for your Fantasy team
This 2020 NBA Draft class is not considered strong. There is a lot of rotation talent, perhaps more than a usual draft, but the top-end talent is just not there at the moment.
That will probably have an impact of how many rookies can have a fantasy impact, but it doesn’t mean we ignore these young stars altogether.

So, who are the rookies that we need to pay some attention to?

LaMelo Ball
Even if Ball doesn’t start straight away, he is immediately in the rotation in a large role and his passing ability is going to make him the number one guy in Charlotte very soon.
His percentages are going to be rough, but he can get steals, he will shoot threes, he will score and the assists could be in the top 10 in the NBA.
If I’m Charlotte, I’m not prioritising Devonte’ Graham or Terry Rozier over Ball and he will be in a big minute role on opening night.
His hype may make him overdrafted in fantasy, but he should be able to be a top 100 player immediately.
James Wiseman
I don’t think Wiseman starts for the Warriors this season. They, despite Klay Thompson’s injury, are still pushing for a title, bringing in Kelly Oubre Jr. in a trade, as reported today.
Wiseman is raw and they still have Kevon Looney and Marquese Chriss who will play significant roles.
Wiseman, though, can be a fantasy option in 20 minutes, but he is at a large risk of being overdrafted.
Killian Hayes
I love Hayes in Detroit. He could easily be the best fantasy rookie this season and should start from opening night on a terrible Pistons team.
He may struggle with his shot, but the numbers and opportunity will be there for Hayes to be the best rookie this season.
I doubt the Pistons will bring in another point guard to start over him and Derrick Rose’s tenure in Detroit surely won’t last all season.
Anthony Edwards
Edwards should be an opening night starter for Minnesota, but his best role is when he has the ball in his hands.
Unfortunately, in Minnesota, he rightfully won’t the ball in his hands. He doesn’t do much defensively, or with rebounding, or assists, and the shooting numbers are bad, so his fantasy value is going to be tied to minutes and usage.
He could still be the leading scorer out of all rookies, but that doesn’t mean he is the best fantasy rookie. He will still be worth a late pick for fantasy.
Tyrese Haliburton
At this point, we don’t know where Bogdan Bogdanović is going to playing, but if it isn’t in Sacramento, Haliburton could slide into that role immediately.
He could be a strong off ball player, who gets assists and steals, as well as shoots threes, and the role is perfect for him.
