'So amazing': Ben Simmons act brings his brother to tears

Despite missing the NBA's All Star game earlier this week after being forced into quarantine, Australian star Ben Simmons has found a way to keep himself busy.

Simmons and teammate Joel Embiid were forced to sit out of the All Star game after a barber the pair had visited in the days prior returned a positive test for the coronavirus.

The Philadelphia 76ers teammates both returned negative tests for the virus, but have been forced to remain in their homes for a week.

While at home, Simmons got his half-brother Sean Tribe to join him on Instagram live to celebrate his birthday - but little did they know the 24-year-old had arranged a pretty big surprise.

When Tribe joined the Instagram stream, Simmons moved the camera down to his garage as he spoke.

“I’ve got to show you something. You know I love cars,” Simmons began, before opening the door to reveal a shiny new Audi four-wheel drive for his brother.

"So that’s your car. It’s all yours man.

“I appreciate all your hard work and everything you do for me, man.

“Whenever you’re ready you can come and pick this up.

“Baby friendly. Originally I was thinking a two-door …”

Tribe, who was joined on the call by his partner and their young son, was visibly moved by the gesture.

The half-brother of the $215M AUD NBA superstar couldn't help but shed a tear after the reveal.

“Stop it,” he said. “Why would you go and do something like that?

“That’s so awesome. Bro, you didn’t have to do that. I really appreciate that.

“Oh my god, that is so amazing. That is above and beyond whatever you have to do. That’s crazy.

“You didn’t have to do that. I appreciate it. Thankyou so much.”

Simmons seemed pleased with the response to his gift, which eventually moved Tribe to tears - much to the Aussie point guard's enjoyment.

“I got you crying on the live?! He’s crying on the live!" an excited Simmons pointed out.

Embiid and Simmons will both miss the 76ers game against the Chicago Bulls on Thursday, and then Simmons will have to miss Friday’s game against the Washington Wizards, too.

As long as they both keep testing negative, Embiid can play against the Wizards and then Simmons can return for Sunday’s game against the San Antonio Spurs.

Embiid and Simmons were both ruled out of the All-Star Game after they reportedly received haircuts from a barber who later tested positive for the coronavirus. The two had traveled to Atlanta on private planes and didn’t come into contact with anyone there.

They have tested negative repeatedly ever since. Nobody at the All-Star Game tested positive, either.

While he’s happy his two stars won’t be sidelined with the coronavirus itself, 76ers coach Doc Rivers knows how big of a hit the team will take in the first two games without them.

“So far, so good as their testing,” Rivers said.

“They feel great. They both obviously wanted to play [in the All-Star Game]. We’re disappointed.

“Both of them, their biggest concern would be if they could play the first two games when we get back … It would be tough to start the second half of the year and not have either one.”
