NBA legend Shaquille O'Neal was taken apart by one of his colleagues on air, before copping another beating from basketball fans online.

The four-time NBA champion was involved in an awkward exchange with TNT co-host Candace Parker during their analysis of Tuesday's game between the Denver Nuggets and Milwaukee Bucks.

Parker - a WNBA champion with the Los Angeles Sparks in 2016 - was discussing modern defences and the difficulties in trying to stop the likes of Nikola Jokic, who dropped 37 points for the Nuggets in the 128-97 win.

Shaq retired from playing in 2011, while Parker is set to start her 14th season - and first with the Chicago Sky - later this year.

That might explain why she owned her TNT co-host during a discussion of the modern pick-and-roll in Tuesday's game.

O'Neal, Parker and fellow co-hosts Dwyane Wade and Adam Lefkoe got started on the topic while talking about the Nuggets and their star Jokic.

It led to a somewhat embarrassing situation for Shaq, whose inability to understand the intricacies of modern basketball were brutally exposed in the following exchange:

Candace Parker: "The NBA switches now, right?"

Shaquille O'Neal: "Why?"

CP: "Because everybody can shoot threes."

SO: "Whatever happened to man up?"

CP: "Because you’re going to be manning up trying to recover back to your man and they’re going to hit a three just like (Denver Nuggets star Nikola) Jokic did."

SO: "Well, whatever happened to pre-rotating?”

CP: "Then they moved the ball around."

The conversation continued for several moments, with Shaq trying to drop his old-school knowledge into a conversation about modern-day basketball. It led to some awkward silences and a myriad of confused facial expressions from Parker.

Shaq's segments with fellow NBA Hall of Famer Charles Barkley have made him one of the most popular broadcast figures in the NBA.

NBA legend cops it from viewers on social media

However, many basketball fans say his analysis of the game leaves something to be desired.

The social media backlash to Shaq's exchange with Parker was particularly brutal, with many viewers claiming the WNBA star made him "look dumb".
