Dana White hopes Ronda Rousey doesn't fight again
Ronda Rousey boosted the UFC to new popularity with her brash style and quick knockouts but hasn't fought since being knocked out by Amanda Nunes in UFC 207 in December 2016.
That's just fine with UFC president Dana White, who told Yahoo Sports he hopes the former superstar doesn't return to the octagon.
"I wouldn’t want to see it," White said, regarding the prospect of Rousey fighting again. "I don’t want that to happen. I care about her. She’s got enough money. She’s got enough money and all that stuff. I don’t want to see it happen. It’s like with [ex-UFC light heavyweight champion] Chuck Liddell. I was hearing that Chuck was talking about fighting again. I hope that’s not true."
Although Rousey, 30, hasn't officially retired from fighting, she still participates in the sport's drug-testing program, and White talks to her on a regular basis. Rousey got married in August to UFC heavyweight Travis Browne, and White says she has spent time traveling and seems "super happy."
But White says Rousey, who opened her career 12-0 before losing her two most recent fights to Holly Holm and then Nunes, apparently isn't ready to officially retire.
"She’s not ready to say, 'I quit,'" White said. "She’s not ready to say, 'I’m done,' for whatever reason. She doesn’t tick like everyone else ticks. We found that out throughout the years. Whatever reason she has for not retiring, I agree [it can’t be fun to keep being tested].
"She’s got this awesome personal life. She’s super happy and why put up with that aggravation anymore? Just announce it and the USADA (drug-testing) stuff stops."
