Matthew Wade suspended by Cricket Australia after outlawed act caught on camera

Matthew Wade has copped a two-game ban from Cricket Australia after slamming his bat into the pitch during Tasmania's Marsh Cup match against Victoria on Monday. Wade cut a frustrated figure as he made just 25 off 51 balls, with Victoria going on to record a three-wicket win.

And things went from bad to worse for Wade on Tuesday when Cricket Australia announced they'd suspended him for the next two games. The former Test player was seen angrily slamming his bat into the pitch after finding a fielder with a straight drive, which amounts to a charge of abuse of equipment.

Because it is Wade's third 'Level 1' breach of the Cricket Australia Code of Conduct in the last 18 months, he will now be forced to sit out the next two games. It's the second time in the last nine months that Wade has been suspended.

During that time he has been hit with two charges of equipment abuse, and one charge relating to the use of an audible obscenity. A fourth breach in the 18-month period could result in a ban of up to a year. Wade was banned for the Hobart Hurricanes' clash with Melbourne Renegades in December after he threw his bat following his dismissal in the game prior.

Wade will will miss Tasmania's next two Marsh Cup games - against NSW at Junction Oval in Melbourne on Wednesday, and against South Australia on October 8. Luckily for the Tigers, the 35-year-old will be available for the opening Sheffield Shield game against South Australia at Karen Rolton Oval from October 3-6.

Peter Handscomb stars as Victoria beat Tasmania

Fellow former Test batter Peter Handscomb helped the Vics win with 31 balls to spare, hitting 51 from 42 balls. Chasing 225 for victory, Handscomb top-scored as Victoria cruised to the target.

Opener Tom Rogers struck five fours and a six as he made 45 from 49 balls, while Handscomb's knock featured seven fours and a six. Emerging 20-year-old Campbell Kellaway then played a composed hand, making 46 from 71 to guide Victoria to victory.

Will Sutherland sealed the win with a cameo of 29 off 20 balls, including a six to finish the match. Billy Stanlake (2-61) and Beau Webster (2-17) were Tasmania's best with the ball.

Scott Boland took 2-30 and Fergus O'Neill 1-36 as Victoria's bowlers bogged down the Tigers top order. Caleb Jewell was out for 13 in the fifth over, before Boland also trapped Mac Wright lbw for a duck.

Jake Weatherald, opening for Tasmania for the first time since leaving South Australia, made 28 from 61 balls but fell to Sam Elliott, who took 2-53. Webster hit nine fours and a six in an impressive counter-punch knock, but the Tigers' total wasn't nearly enough.
