Jake Weatherald was dismissed for a rare diamond duck as Tasmania bowled South Australia out for just 104 in their Marsh Cup clash on Friday.

After winning the toss, it couldn't have gone any worse for South Australia as they recorded the second-lowest total among teams batting first in the domestic one-day competition since October 2015.

The historic horror show was perfectly summed up by Weatherald's dismissal.

The left-hander was run-out without facing a ball after being burned between the wickets by Harry Nielsen.

Nielsen pushed the ball into the off-side and set off for a run, only to watch on in horror as Mac Wright threw down the stumps to leave Weatherald short of his ground.

Weatherald suffered a rare diamond duck - dismissed without even facing a ball.

"Harry Nielsen has put him on the barbecue," one commentator said.

Cricket fans were left in disbelief over the extraordinary scenes.

Callum Ferguson top-scored for the Redbacks with 26, one of only five batsmen to reach double-figures.

Tom Andrews took 3-29 for Tasmania, while Jackson Bird, Riley Meredith and Jarrod Freeman all chipped in with two wickets.

Tim Paine then helped Tasmania cruise to a crushing victory, the entire match at Junction Oval spanning just 49.3 overs.

Test skipper Paine top scored with 54 as Tasmania reached 1-108 in 17.3 overs, securing a nine-wicket victory and two bonus points.

Neser steers Queensland to big win over WA

On Thursday, a brilliant spell of new-ball bowling by Michael Neser helped Queensland claim a comprehensive 93-run win in a rain-affected match against Western Australia.

The Test aspirant took three wickets for just one run in his first four overs to wreck the Warriors' top order at an overcast Gabba.

Queensland dismissed the visitors for 143 off 31.5 overs chasing a reduced target of 237 in 40 overs.

Neser, making his return from a hamstring injury, finished with 3-10 off six overs - including three maidens to be the pick of the Bulls' bowlers.

Jack Wildermuth, who top-scored in the home team's 9-264 earlier in the day with 66, capped a good day taking 2-36 as Queensland claimed a bonus-point victory.

Ex-Test opener Cameron Bancroft (0) and in-form all-rounder Cameron Green (4) were among Neser's scalps, as a WA team already missing several international players also faced the Bulls without Shaun Marsh after he returned to Perth due to personal reasons.

Having been reduced to 3-6 inside five overs, the Warriors never looked likely to chase down their target despite mini-revival led by stand-in captain Sam Whiteman (52 off 63).
