'Lots of talk': India great's big truth bomb for Aussies

A former India Test captain has brought Australia crashing back to earth with a big truth bomb.

Sourav Ganguly has issued a stern warning to the Australian media and reminded everyone that despite the Aussies’ breakthrough win in the second Test, it doesn’t mean anything yet.

Ganguly took to social media on Thursday to remind everyone that there’s still two Tests remaining in the series.

“Lots of talk going around in media specially Australian .. watch out for india against this australia ..still two tests to go and india can win both.. don’t go too far ahead everyone,” Ganguly tweeted on Thursday.

Ganguly also offered some advice for under-fire skipper Virat Kohli.

While speaking to India TV, Ganguly said, “I had thought of sending a text to Kohli but I haven’t done it yet.

“I wanted to tell him that you shouldn’t give so many wickets to spinners outside the subcontinent.

“There is no doubt that Nathan Lyon is a great spinner but so were Shane Warne, Muttiah Muralitharan and Graeme Swann.”

The former Indian captain also reckons the tourists have shown Lyon too much respect by defending deliveries outside off stump.

According to Ganguly, the Indians need be more attacking.

Ponting warns Aussies too

The Sydney Morning Herald said that “after nine months, Australia are reborn and rebaptised” while the Daily Telegraph trumpeted that the nation again had “a cricket team it can cheer for without feeling mixed emotions”.

“Tim Paine’s men are not the finished product,” added the Telegraph.

“They have soft spots and will lose plenty of Tests but in a strange sort of way this makes their victory over India all the more meritorious.”

With a win under their belt and the series level, Australia now head to the Melbourne Cricket Ground cauldron for the Boxing Day Test with the same squad, resisting any temptation to change.

Former skipper Ricky Ponting said they needed to keep playing hard, uncompromising cricket without courting too much controversy.

“Just not relax,” Ponting told cricket.com.au when asked what Australia must do stay on top of India.

“They’ve set a bit of blueprint this week with the way they’ve played. They just have to build on that now.

“There’s no doubt with one win a bit of belief comes but they can’t just rock up in Melbourne and expect India are going to play like they did here (in Perth).”
