Matildas star Katrina Gorry has made the huge call to join Kristie Mewis, Sam Kerr's fiancee, at West Ham having chatted to national teammate Mackenzie Arnold about the opportunity. Last year, Gorry was left without a club having played her final game for Swedish team Vittsjo GIK.

Gorry had fond memories of the club having met fiancee and fellow player Clara Markstedt in Sweden. And after a couple of months, Women's Super League club West Ham announced Gorry would be joining them in London as they look to fight their way out of the relegation battle.

And the Matildas star admitted she spoke to West Ham goalkeeper and fellow international Mazkenzie Arnold before joining the club. "I always go through Mack for anything..." Gorry said on the Iron Cast podcast.

"There were a few questions I asked Macca and a couple of others that had been at the club before, and they all spoke highly. You can see with Macca how much her game has progressed over the last couple of years here. I think that shows what this club can do for players. I feel as though the club really spoke my language. It's a family club and I feel as though I've ended up in the right place."

Gorry arrived at East London with her two-year-old daughter Harper and took part in a lovely photoshoot. The 31-year-old has been around the Matildas set-up for a while and has represented Australia in the Olympics and five other major tournaments. During the World Cup, Gorry put in a stellar performance to propel Australia to the semi-final having covered more ground and made more tackles than any other player in the tournament.

The struggling club has only picked up five points in 10 games this season. West Ham coach Rehanne Skinner having praised the signing of the Matildas star.

"We wanted to add leadership to the squad and Katrina has this in abundance. With her wealth of experience in the domestic and international game, I have no doubt her professionalism will be an asset," Skinner said.

West Ham have also signed Sam Kerr's fiancee Kristie Mewis in a huge move for the East London club, which is is doing everything possible to avoid relegation. There are now 14 Australians playing in the Women's Super League.
