Jeremy Finlayson's wife Kellie makes heartbreaking new revelation about cancer battle

Kellie Finlayson has been battling stage four bowel and lung cancer since 2021.

Kellie Finlayson - the wife of Port Adelaide AFL star Jeremy Finlayson - has shared a devastating update about her ongoing battle with terminal cancer. The 28-year-old has been documenting her battle against stage four bowel and lung cancer since 2021, and scans had revealed up until recently that her tumour was stable and not spreading.

However, she shared a heartbreaking video on social media this week to inform followers that her cancer has started spreading again, meaning she will potentially have to undergo another bout of chemotherapy. “So, um, not great news, but not the worst news either, I guess,” Finlayson started off saying in the video uploaded to TikTok. “Unfortunately, with cancer, especially relapsed cancer, it grows really fast.

“So once we see not even quite a millimetre of growth in a scan over a couple of months, we know that that means it’s growing and that means we have to act on it.” She went on to reveal that scans picked up a small growth in the cancer, prompting Finlayson's doctor to recommend a number of follow-up appointments with various medical specialists.

“So normally I walk out of a meeting with my oncologist and he tells me that we’re happy to watch and wait. Not the case today," Finlayson added. "I am off to see a surgeon next week and a radiotherapist also just to get all of my options before potentially starting chemotherapy again. I guess I’m one of the lucky ones because we know chemotherapy works really well for me, but any chemotherapy is f**ked and not what I want to be doing.”

Finlayson was first diagnosed with cancer in 2021, three months after giving birth to daughter Sophia, and thought the pain she was experiencing was related to her pregnancy. The 28-year-old has spoken in the past about the effectiveness of the chemotherapy treatment she's undertaken and how it's helped stop the spread of her cancer. But Finlayson said she has come to accept the devastating reality that “a full cure is unlikely” for her.

Jeremy Finlayson spoke of his heartbreak at first being told of Kellie's cancer, which his wife said was "the hardest thing" she has ever had to do. Jeremy poured his heart out in an emotional interview on Channel 10's The Project where he admitted the shocking news had turned the couple's lives upside down.

"I remember going into the club, training, and meeting people I had never seen before in my life and just breaking down and crying," he said. "I couldn't control it. Just crying out of nowhere and they instantly just gave me a big cuddle." The Port Adelaide player has spoken about wanting to give back to the club after their tremendous support throughout the family's ordeal.

The Port Adelaide star also opened up on the enormous toll his wife's cancer battle had taken on the family, during an appearance on alongside Kellie and Sophia on The Morning Show. “I’ve tried to put a brave face on through everything, just looking at how strong Kellie is and just trying to be her rock and just trying to put a smile on her face out on the football ground for her and Soph and trying to provide for them while she’s going through such a difficult battle. It’s all that I can do.”
