David Warner was left gobsmacked by “some of the most bizarre dismissals” he’d ever seen - including his own - in the Sunrisers Hyderabad’s loss in the IPL on Monday.

Hyderabad stumbled badly in their chase, losing 8-42 to be all out for 153 in a 10-run loss to Royal Challengers Bangalore.

Warner kicked off the rot when he was run-out for just six at the non-striker’s end.

Jonny Bairstow's booming straight-drive deflected off the bowler's hand, before bouncing and spinning back onto the stumps where Warner was found short of his ground.

Warner said he’d never seen as many bizarre dismissals in one game after a number of teammates also fell in freakish fashion.

“It was something I hadn’t really seen out there before,” Warner said after the game.

“There were three bizarre middle order dismissals.”

Hyderabad collapsed from a comfortable 2-121 to be packed off in 19.4 overs with Virat Kohli taking a good outfield catch off Dale Steyn to close out the game.

AB de Villiers in fine form

Earlier, South African veteran AB de Villiers smashed 51 off 30 deliveries to guide last year's wooden spooners Bangalore, captained by Kohli, to 5-163.

Bangalore, led by leg-spinner Yuzvendra Chahal, bowled out Hyderabad for 153 despite a valiant 61 by Bairstow.

“It's amazing and last year we were on the other side of the results,” a delighted Kohli said in the post-match presentation.

“We kept our composure tonight. Yuzi (Chahal) came in and changed the game for us.”

De Villiers struck his 34th fifty in the IPL after losing Kohli for 14 and innings top-scorer Devdutt Padikkal, who scored 56 on IPL debut.

De Villiers, 36, smashed fours boundaries and two sixes to take his count of hits over the fence to 201 for Bangalore, who are still searching for their maiden IPL title.

“It's a nice change to get on the right side of a close game early on in the season. We worked very hard for the win,” said de Villiers.

“It's a great start for us and hopefully a good sign of things to come. I surprised myself to be honest.”

Mitch Marsh suffers devastating injury blow

Meanwhile, Mitchell Marsh will have scans on a potentially serious ankle injury after he went down in the first over of his IPL campaign.

Marsh looked to twist his ankle while attempting to field in his follow-through for his new franchise Sunrisers Hyderabad on Monday night.

His attempts to continue the over lasted just two more balls before he limped off, Marsh then coming in to bat at No.10 only to be assisted off once dismissed from his first ball.

An in-form incumbent in both limited-overs sides and a fringe Test player, the 28-year-old has more than two months to recover before Australia plays again.

“A lot of courage from him to walk out there and try his best, but it was unfortunate tonight,” compatriot and club captain Warner said of Marsh.

“He's got to get an X-ray, hopefully it's not too bad.

“It doesn't look great. Obviously what you saw out there, it was quite painful, he can't put any weight on it. Fingers crossed.”
