'I need answers': West Indies star's stunning T20 racism claims

West Indies star Darren Sammy has taken to Instagram and vowed to call out cricketers that he alleged may have racially abused him during his time playing in the T20 Indian Premier League between 2013-14.

Sammy, a T20 ace, played for the Sunrisers Hyderabad in 2013-2014 and has come out after revealing he was called ‘kalu’ - a Hindi racist dig towards black people - during his time playing for them.

The T20 star said up until very recently he though the word meant ‘strong stallion’.

But after he was told of the meaning, he took to Instagram to call out players who allegedly called him the racist word and asked for an explanation.

“I’ve played all over the world and I’ve been loved by many people,” he said.

“I’ve embraced all the dressing rooms I’ve played in.

“I was listening to Hasan Minhaj talking about how some of the people in his culture describe black people.

“I said I was angry after listening to him describing a word that they used to describe black people, that he was saying was not in a good way, and it was degrading.

“I got very angry about it, knowing now what that word meant.”

Sammy warns players

Sammy said he wanted those players that allegedly called him the word to reach out to him, before he calls them out.

“I will be messaging those people, you guys know who you are,” he added.

“I must admit at the time in which I was being called that, I actually did not know what it meant. I thought it meant strong stallion.

“I saw no problems with it, because I was ignorant to the fact that I did not know what it meant.

“Every time I was called it, there was laughter in the moment.

“I thought teammates are happy, so it must be something funny.”

On Instagram, he wrote: “I need answers” to accompany the video.

Sammy did not name any of the players he alleged used the slur.
