'Absolutely vile': The shocking fallout after 'outrageous' football act

Rangers have confirmed Kemar Roofe has been racially abused on social media after his horror challenge on the Salvia Prague goalkeeper during the Europa League.

Prague won 2-0 (3-1) to advance to the quarter-final of the Europa League and knock Steven Gerrard's men out of the competition.

But the tense match was marred after an absolutely shocking challenge from Roofe on keeper Ondrej Kolar.

Chasing the ball 1-0 down, Roofe lifted his leg and missed the ball and instead collected Kolar right in the face.

Kolar needed immediate medical attention and was stretched off the field.

The keeper was left with a nasty cut on his cheek and a horror gash on his forehead.

Roofe racially abused after challenge

Roofe had his eye on the ball when jumping and raising his foot, but was rightfully awarded a red card.

However, in a shocking twist, Roofe has been subjected to 'disgusting' racial abuse on social media after the game.

"Kemar Roofe now the subject of racist abuse on Instagram. Disgusting," The Athletic UK journalist Jordan Campbell wrote.

Accompanied with Campbell's tweet was a photo of the racist abuse.

Fans were stunned at the disgusting abuse directed towards Roofe.

"Absolutely vile," one user wrote.

"Disgusting," Stevie Jukes tweeted.

Furthermore, Gerrard alleged Rangers player Glen Kamara had been racially abused during the game.

Gerrad said Kamara told him he was allegedly racially abused before a scuffle broke out between the players with five minutes to go.

"I feel angry," the manager told reporters.

"It’s difficult to describe how I feel now because I know Glen and I trust him 100 per cent. It’s extremely disappointing.

"Glen Kamara to me is one of my own. I 100 per cent believe what he is saying in terms of the accusation.

"Other players around him heard it so I will stand toe to toe with Glen Kamara and I’ll deal with this however Glen wants to deal with it. I am proud of all my players showing solidarity and from the top of this club to the bottom we stand with the players.

"This situation is over to UEFA now. I just hope it doesn’t get brushed under the carpet.

“All I can confirm is that my player tells me he was racially abused. I tried to call Glen over during the game, he didn’t come over. I was going to ask him did he want to leave the pitch and I would have backed him whatever his decision was but the players stayed on the pitch, that was their decision and the game came to a conclusion."

Slavia Praha categorically denied the accusation.

“Slavia categorically opposes the fact that Ondrej Kudela racistly insulted the players’ opponents in any way," wrote president Jaroslav Tvrdik in a statement.

"It tells us that our player was physically attacked after the match. At the request of Slavia, the case was resolved by the local police. We would like to see a detailed investigation of the whole situation by UEFA.”
