A women’s football pro has been sacked by her club in the UK after a number of controversial videos were circulated online.

Madelene Wright has been let go by the Charlton Athletic women’s team after two videos emerged, reportedly showing her inhaling from a balloon at a party and drinking champagne while driving.

The 22-year-old was reportedly identified in the videos that appeared on SnapChat.

Wright was allegedly seen inhaling from helium balloons with multiple others while at a party, as well as swigging from a champagne bottle while behind the wheel of her Range Rover.

A spokesperson for Charlton Athletic confirmed that Wright’s registration with the club had been cancelled.

“The club were made aware of the video and quickly investigated the incident,” the spokesperson told The Sun.

“As a club we are disappointed with the behaviour which doesn’t represent the standards the team upholds.

“The player is remorseful and has now left the club.

“The club would like to make clear that although the behaviour is not acceptable, the players welfare remains important to us and she will still have access to the club's support channels if needed.”

A spokesperson for road safety charity Brake told The Sun: “Driving and alcohol simply do not mix.

“When you’re behind the wheel you’re in charge of a potentially lethal weapon which requires full concentration and zero impairment to do so safely.

“We urge all drivers to never drink any amount of alcohol and drive - and certainly never do both at the same time.”

More controversy for Madelene Wright

Wright was investigated by former club Millwall last year after video emerged of her dog steering the wheel of a moving car she was a passenger in.

“Millwall Lionesses are extremely disappointed by the footage and will be reminding all players of their responsibilities as role models as part of a full investigation into the matter,” the club said at the time.

Brake labelled the footage “careless”.

“This is a concerning video demonstrating careless driving behaviour which could have potentially led to a serious crash,” a spokesperson told the Daily Star.

“Dogs, or other animals, should be suitably restrained when in a car, as set out in the highway code, to avoid distraction.

“We would also urge drivers to keep their eyes on the road and hands on the wheel at all times.”
