Football world loses it over 'ridiculous' Kylian Mbappe history

A moment of brilliance from Lionel Messi led to Paris Saint Germain teammate Kylian Mbappe scoring the fastest goal in French league history, during a 7-1 demolition of Lille on Monday morning (AEST).

PSG needed just four passes to perfectly execute a training ground move that saw Mbappe find the back of the net just eight seconds into the contest.

Messi provided the assist with a perfectly-weighted ball over the top of the Lille defence that sublimely picked out the run of Mbappe, who in turn showed excellent composure to chip Les Dogues goalkeeper Leo Jardim.

Lille were left shellshocked after conceding such an early goal and never recovered, with Messi adding a second goal in the 27th minute with a precise strike from the edge of the penalty area.

Achraf scored PSG’s third goal, before Brazilian star Neymar added a brace with goals either side of half-time.

Mbappe completed the rout and notched his first hat-trick of the Ligue 1 season with two more goals in the closing stages of the contest.

The result was PSG’s biggest ever victory over Lille, and went a long way to silencing talk of a rift between the star trio of Messi, Neymar and Mbappe.

No signs of a fall-out between PSG stars

The France star had made public comments criticising the standard of South American football in May.

“Argentina and Brazil don't have that level of competition in South America, the football is not as developed as in Europe, that is why most recent World Cup winners have been Europeans,” Mbappe claimed.

The statement had reportedly been a point of contention amongst the trio and appeared to reach boiling point when Neymar refused to allow the Frenchman to take his side’s second penalty against Montpellier last week.

Mbappe had seen an earlier spot-kick attempt save by the Montpellier goalkeeper, but did not take kindly to Neymar usurping him as the team’s penally taker.

Following the contest, it was reported that PSG defender Sergio Ramos had to step in to separate the pair in the locker room, while Neymar took to social media to ‘like’ two posts criticising the actions of Mbappe.

However, there were no signs of simmering tensions between teammates as PSG’s front three linked superbly throughout the clash with Lille, continually battering their defence with enterprising attacks on goal.

The defending French champions now sit atop the Ligue 1 table with three wins from their opening three games, and have scored 17 goals while conceding only three.

Lille, who won the French title during the 2020-21 season are now in 12th place.
