Ellyse Perry and Jess Jonassen light up WPL in stunning Aussie display

The Aussies continued their dominance of the Women's Premier League, but it was more bad news for Ellyse Perry.

Ellyse Perry and Jess Jonassen have continued some remarkable Aussie dominance in the Women's Premier League, however Perry's Royal Challengers Bangalore side are in serious danger of being bundled out. Perry registered her second-successive half-century on Monday, cracking 67 not out off 52 balls with five sixes.

However the Delhi Capitals chased down RCB's total of 4-150 in Bombay, winning with two balls and six wickets to spare. Perry had won the battle against compatriot Jonassen in the first innings, hitting her for two sixes.

But with the ball, Perry was unable to break a match-winning partnership between Jonassen (29 off 15 balls) and Marizanne Kapp (32 off 32). Jonassen's heroics delivered the Capitals their fourth win in five matches, taking them level on points with the Mumbai Indians at the top of the table.

As for Perry's RCB, the star-studded team remain winless in their first five matches of the tournament. They must win their remaining three matches and hope results go their way, but if they lose on Wednesday to Alyssa Healy's UP Warriorz they will be out of contention.

Perry who has now scored 195 runs throughout the tournament at an average 48.75. She was only 12 off her first 20 balls on Monday and 25 off 35. On her 38th ball she batted a shortish delivery from Shikha Pandey back to the bowler, who produced a horror drop.

Perry then drove Pandey for six over long-on, which opened the floodgates for the Aussie all-rounder. She went on to hit 37 off her last 23 balls in another brilliant knock.

Perry was given good support by Indian player Richa Ghosh, who made 37 off 16 balls. New Zealander Sophie Devine made 21 off 18.

Jess Jonassen the hero for Delhi Capitals

Aussie bowler Megan Schutt gave RCB the perfect start with the ball, bowling Shafali Verma with her second delivery with a beautiful in-swinger. But England's Alice Capsey took the attack to RCB, cracking a series of boundaries.

After four boundaries in succession in the fifth over she was caught on the deep mid-wicket rope by Perry for a 24-ball 38. Aussie captain Meg Lanning was next to go after an uncharacteristically quiet 15 off 18, followed by Jeminah Rodrigues for 32 off 28.

That brought Kapp and Jonassen together, with 42 needed off 33 balls and six wickets in hand. It came down to seven off four with Jonassen at the crease, with the Queenslander launching a pull-shot towards Perry on the deep leg-side boundary and over her despairing jump for six.

Jonassen slapped the next ball for four to guide the Capitals home. "It got much closer than we would have liked but I was happy to be there at the end and get the team over the line," Jonassen said after the match.

Jonassen rarely gets the chance to show her batting prowess at international level for Australia due to a star-studded national team lineup. She has relished her opportunity in the WPL, hitting a total of 73 runs off 38 balls for one dismissal.

"It is really hard in the Australian line-up to get up the order, I'm starved of opportunity in that team, but in domestic cricket I bat in the lower order and try and finish games," she said after being named player of the match. "More innings like this are hopefully coming."
