'Unplayable': Pat Cummins bamboozles rival with 'absolute beauty'

Pat Cummins has tuned up for Australia's first Test with a remarkable spell of bowling for New South Wales in their Sheffield Shield clash against Western Australia.

The Blues quick was at his destructive best against a Warriors batting attack that simply had no answers to the world's No.1 ranked bowler.

Cummins and spinner Steve O'Keefe shone for the home side before lunch, taking five wickets between them to leave WA reeling at the SCG.

Aussie quick Cummins had three of those wickets himself, including an absolute peach of a delivery to remove Cameron Green.

As he did so expertly during this year's Ashes series, Cummins completely bamboozled Green after hitting the perfect line just outside off stump.

The ball pitched just outside the lie of the stumps and was short enough for the WA batsman to convince himself it was safe to leave.

Green could only watch in disbelief as the ball nipped back off the seam, zipped off the deck and clattered into the top of his off stump.

The incredible delivery had mouths watering on social media, where viewers described it as "unplayable".

Chasing NSW's 8(dec)-444, the visitors appeared relatively settled at the close of day two at 1-85.

By lunch, the Warriors had slipped to 6-133.

O'Keefe, Cummins destroy WA attack

Having survived the best part of an hour during the morning session, both Shaun Marsh (43) and D'Arcy Short (51) were sent back to the pavilion in consecutive O'Keefe (2-16) overs.

Then spearhead Cummins (3-27) chimed in, firstly having captain Ashton Turner (one) caught behind off a sublime delivery, and then clean bowling highly-rated youngster Green (six).

Wicketkeeper Josh Inglis (two) was sent back to the pavilion in the final over before lunch as Cummins made another breakthrough as WA lost 5-17.

WA were bowled out just before tea on day three of their Sheffield Shield match for just 191, leaving NSW with a massive 253-run lead on the first innings.

Cummins' 3-31 represented the best figures for the Blues, with fellow Australian paceman Mitchell Starc claiming 2-45.

The third Test quick in a formidable NSW attack, Josh Hazlewood was unlucky to go wicketless with figures of 0-25 from 15 overs.

O'Keefe ended up on 3-36 and Nathan Lyon was unable to break through until late on before collecting two scalps during 32 frugal overs.

With the SCG pitch expected to take more spin on day four, NSW declined to enforce the follow-on against their second-placed opponents.

NSW are chasing a fourth win from as many matches to commence the season.
