Marcus Stoinis' bizarre snub for Sachin Tendulkar as fresh World Cup storm erupts

Vision has emerged of the moment Marcus Stoinis and Adam Zampa opted not to shake hands with Indian cricket officials after the World Cup final, with Stoinis even failing to shake the hand of Sachin Tendulkar. Australia shocked India in the final on Sunday night to win a sixth men's World Cup trophy.

India came into the final undefeated for the tournament, but Pat Cummins' side turned the tables to leave the host nation shell-shocked. Needless to say, the cricket-loving nation of India hasn't taken the loss particularly well.

And the actions of Stoinis and Zampa have done nothing to ease the tension. Videos are going viral of the Aussie cricketers seemingly snubbing BCCI (Board of Cricket for Control in India) officials while accepting their medals during the post-match presentation.

Stoinis can be seen walking straight past BCCI president Roger Binny, secretary Jay Shah and Indian legend Tendulkar to accept his medal from ICC chairman Greg Barclay. The Aussie all-rounder did seem to say hello to Tendulkar despite failing to shake hands with him, leaving the cricket icon a little bemused.

After David Warner made sure to shake hands with all the officials on stage, Zampa walked straight past Binny and Shah. The Aussie spinner did shake hands with Tendulkar, but there didn't seem to be much warmth in the greeting.

Indian fans haven't taken too kindly to the actions of Stoinis and Zampa, describing them as 'disrespectful' and 'pathetic'. Others suggested they might not have known who they were supposed to shake hands with considering it was one the most awkward and poorly-run presentations ever.

Stoinis was dropped for the semi-final and final after an injury-marred tournament, with Aussie selectors going with Marnus Labuschagne instead. Labuschagne's middle-order batting was preferred to the extra bowling option that Stoinis provided, and it paid off in spades.

Amid criticism that his strike-rate isn't high enough, Labuschagne played the perfect innings after an early collapse left Australia at 3-47 while chasing 241. Labuschagne made a measured 58 not out off 110 balls, steading the ship and providing Travis Head with the perfect foundation to big. Head made 137 as he and Labuschange combined for a match-winning partnership of 192.

As for Zampa, he produced the equal-best World Cup by a spinner in history. His 23 wickets for the tournament tied him with Muttiah Muralitharan's all-time record, which the Sri Lankan legend set in 2003. The leg-spinner finished one behind Mohammad Shami for most wickets among all bowlers for the tournament.

The fresh storm around Stoinis and Maxwell comes after Mitch Marsh also landed himself in hot water for posing for a photo in the dressing room with his feet on the World Cup trophy. Marsh was also labelled 'disrespectful' for his treatment of the prized possession, which India were heartbroken not to get their hands on. One person even wrote on social media: “ICC must take action against Marsh.”

But as well as blasting the actions of Marsh, Stoinis and Maxwell, angry Indian fans have also targeted the wives and girlfriends of the Aussie players on social media. Glenn Maxwell's wife Vini, who is of Indian descent, wrote on Instagram on Monday night: "Cue all the hateful, vile DMs (direct messages). Stay classy.

"Can't believe this needs to be said but you can be Indian and also support the country of your birth where you have been raised and more importantly the team your husband and father of your child plays in. Take a chill pill and direct that outrage towards more important world issues."

Head's wife was also the subject of some disgusting comments on social media after she was spotted celebrating with her husband in the rooms after the final. The treatment of the players' partners has been condemned around the rest of the cricket world.
