Bangladesh have become the first team in Test cricket history to record six ducks in one innings in back-to-back matches.

Six players failed to trouble the scorers in Bangladesh's paltry first innings total of 103 on the first day of the first Test against the West Indies on Thursday.

'NEVER SEEN THAT': England stun cricket world in record feat

In 145 years of Test cricket history, there have been just seven instances of a team recording six ducks in an innings.

Bangladesh are now responsible for three of them, including in the first innings of their previous Test match against Sri Lanka last month.

It is also the second time they have suffered the ignominious feat against the West Indies, having also recorded six ducks in a Test innings in 2002.

The other teams with six ducks in an innings are Pakistan in 1980, South Africa in 1996, England in 2014 and New Zealand in 2018.

Bangladesh owed almost half of their first innings runs to captain Shakib al Hasan, who made 51 on Thursday.

Opener Tamim Iqbal (29) and Litton Das (12) were the only other players to reach double figures.

The Windies pacemen were outstanding on a brown pitch, which occasionally provided uneven bounce.

The hosts won the toss and bowled first on Thursday, which is usually the favoured decision at the Sir Vivian Richards Stadium.

Jayden Seales took 3-33 from 10 overs and Alzarri Joseph returned the same figures from 8.5 overs for a career-best haul.

Kemar Roach began the onslaught with two early wickets and finished with 2-21, while Kyle Mayers took 2-10 from five overs.

"It was a pretty tough pitch to bowl on in terms of finding a length," Roach said.

"It was very slow at the beginning so obviously you want to be a bit fuller. There were some rough patches there and some ridges and such that we wanted to hit as much as we can.

"I think we did that pretty well. Shakib batted well for his 50 but overall the bowling group did a pretty good job today."

Cricket world stunned by Bangladesh horror show

Bangladesh were always facing an uphill task after their recent home series loss to Sri Lanka.

Captain Mominal Haque stepped down after that defeat, with Shakib reluctantly taking the reins - although he has made clear he prefers shorter formats over Test cricket.

Bangladesh are also without the injured Taskin Ahmed and Shoriful Islam, while Mushfiqur Rahim is on the Hajj pilgrimage.

The tourists lost Mahmudul Hasan Joy for a duck to the second ball of the day, bowled by Roach, and Najmul Hossain Shanto, also without scoring, in Roach's second over.

Mominul also fell for a duck when Bangladesh were on just 16 in the sixth over.

Tamim and Litton Das provided some brief resistance before Tamim was out with the total at 4-41, having batted for just over an hour.

Shakib reached his half century from 64 balls with six fours and a six, but received little support.

He was out with the total on 103 with the innings ending in 32.5 overs shortly after lunch.

Nurul Hasan, Mustafizur Rahman and Khaled Ahmed were the three others to record ducks.

Roach said the toss was "very important."

"It's always best to bowl here in Antigua with the movement, the lateral, sideways stuff," he said.

"To bowl well and bowl them out after lunch is fantastic."

Windies captain Kraigg Brathwaite called for the heavy roller between innings and the hosts reached 2-95 at stumps.

Braithwaite was 42 not out and Nkrumah Bonner 12.
