The bizarre moment a security guard placed a cameraman in a chokehold after a college basketball game has been captured in stunning detail by a student photographer.

The security guard grabbed the cameraman after the buzzer in the Atlantic 10 final between St. Bonaventure University and VCU, which the former won 74-65 at the University of Dayton Arena.

As players celebrated on court the videographer, who was reportedly allowed on the court and had been earlier throughout the game, was grabbed by the guard around the neck.

St Bonaventure players and staff noticed the cameraman, later identified as a member of the school, as he was being taken away from the court and informed the guard he was with them.

The cameraman was then allowed to film the rest of the post-game celebrations, which was played at the University of Dayton Arena.

According to The Buffalo News, the Atlantic 10 has launched an investigation into the incident.

"We're aware and we're looking into it with Dayton," Drew Dickerson, the league's assistant commissioner said.

Images of the guard restraining the cameraman were captured by University of Dayton student Griffin Quinn, who shared them on social media.

Sports host Jeff Eisenband described the images as 'one of the most bizarre sports photos you will ever see', while NBA writer Tim Reynolds said he was 'speechless'.

LaMelo Ball stars again in Hornets NBA win

LaMelo Ball continues to bolster his NBA rookie of the year resume, top scoring in Charlotte's 114-104 win over the short-handed Toronto Raptors as the Hornets welcomed back some fans to a home game.

Ball had 23 points and nine rebounds for the Hornets, who seemed to feed off having fans - about 3000 of them - in attendance for the first time in more than a year due to the coronavirus pandemic.

Ball, who finished 6 of 9 from 3-point range said he got excited during pre-game warm-ups seeing and hearing fans.

"It was amazing," Ball said. "

"Every game with fans is way more fun. The intensity just rises up."

Ball made one notable highlight reel 3-pointer when he caught a look-ahead pass from PJ Washington in the corner, did a 360-degree turn to avoid a defender and still knocked down the shot.

"That is just how he plays," teammate Devonte Graham said of Ball.

"It doesn't surprise me."

Ball is averaging 15.8 points, 6.1 rebounds and 6.4 assists in his 37 games this season.

In contrast, Ben Simmons averaged 15.8 points, 8.1 rebounds and 8.2 assists in his 81-game NBA rookie of the year campaign of 2017-18.
