Boxing world erupts over Aussie's insane KO: 'Can't believe it'

Lucas Browne has stunned the boxing world on the undercard of George Kambosos Jr's fight with Devin Haney with a thunderous knockout of Junior Fa.

The Aussie, who once won a version of the WBA heavyweight title only to lose it after testing positive for a banned substance, drilled Fa with a pair of crushing right hands on Sunday to score a first-round TKO at Marvel Stadium in Melbourne.

Browne threw a big overhand right that dropped Fa midway through the opening round and had his Kiwi opponent in all sorts of trouble.

Fa managed to get back to his feet and attempted to ride out the round and get his bearings back, but there was far too much time remaining.

Browne, a 14-1 underdog at some sports books, trapped Fa in a corner and ripped him with another right that appeared to land on the back of his opponent's head.

Referee Jeffrey Eddy didn’t call it a foul and instead quickly waved off the bout to give Browne the TKO victory after just 1:58 in the first round.

Some commentators were left questioning whether Eddy should have allowed Fa to continue after the first knockdown.

“I think he is gone. He’s in all sorts of trouble. He’s got to stop it I think. He is done," Aussie great Barry Michael said on Main Event.

"He won’t get through this, no way. Extraordinary scenes here, I can’t believe it. One right hand and it is over.”

Paul Kent said: “It should have been stopped after the first knockdown.

“He was almost convulsing there on the canvas.”

Browne was just 2-2 in his last four bouts, including a loss to former NRL star Paul Gallen.

Browne said he was determined not to be defined by that upset result and felt that Gallen repeatedly hit him illegally.

Fa was 19-1 with his only loss coming in his last bout when he dropped a unanimous decision in February 2021 to ex-WBO heavyweight champion Joseph Parker.

Browne had a pointed message for his critics after the win, namely Michael.

“Are we still too old?” Browne yelled directly at Michael from the ring.

“More power than ever, fitter than ever... f*** everyone."

Michael said in commentary: “He came and had a crack at me because I thought he should retire but he proved me wrong.

“I didn’t make any public comments before this fight but I just thought it was a deadset tough ask.

"One thing, as I said, the last thing that goes with any boxer is his power and he’s got power.”

Fellow Aussie legend Jeff Fenech said: “He’s proved everybody wrong.

“In the heavyweight division you’re one punch from disaster.”

The 43-year-old Browne is now 31-3 in his career with 27 KOs.

"I've got the power to knock anyone out in the world," Browne said after the fight.

"The problem is that I don't throw it because I'm scared of hurting people, not in the ring, I'm talking about sparring, so I've got into the habit of not throwing my right hand.

"The entire purpose of today was to set something up and throw it and when I threw it I knocked him down.

"He shouldn't have been allowed to continue, he was wobbling everywhere, but as soon as he (the referee) said keep going I thought all right, another one is coming."
