The AFL is investigating reports two Richmond players were caught in a wild brawl outside a Gold Coast strip club.

It's understood Tiger players Sydney Stack and Callum Coleman-Jones were involved in the alleged incident on Wednesday night.

AFL officials are aware of the allegations against the two players, who are accused of getting in a fight after allegedly being ejected from the premises.

The incident would represent a clear breach of the league's strict virus protocols, with players prohibited from attending bars, clubs, restaurants and other such public spaces.

It's understood AFL CEO Gillon McLachlan and Richmond CEO Brendon Gale were involved in discussions on Friday with the club staring down the possibility of a $100,000 fine and suspensions for both players.

The Tigers were already handed a $25,000 suspended fine for Trent Cotchin's wife Brooke's day spa breach, with that figure plus a further $75,000 fine potentially added on for a second breach.

The Courier Mail is reporting that the two players were arrested after an altercation arose outside Hollywood Showgirls.

Queensland Police released a statement saying two men had been issued with an infringement notice for public nuisance.

“Police arrested two men following a disturbance in Surfers Paradise early this morning,” the statement said.

“Around 3.30am, officers responded to reports of two men, aged 20 and 21, involved in a physical altercation on Orchid Avenue.

“Both men sustained facial injuries as a result of the incident.

“The men were both issued with a Police Banning Notice, excluding them from Gold Coast Safe Night Precincts and a Penalty Infringement Notice (PIN) for Public Nuisance (Violent Behaviour). Further investigations are continuing into the matter.”

Police confirmed the players had been fined $800 each and that investigations into the incident were ongoing.

The Richmond club released a series of tweets explaining that they had made the AFL aware of the incident.

"Richmond has become aware of a breach of AFL Covid-19 protocol by two of its players, in the early hours of Friday morning," a club statement read.

"The Club immediately reported the breach of protocols to the AFL, and is working with the League to investigate the matter.

"The players have been based inside the Club’s player hub on the Gold Coast having already undertaken a 14-day quarantine in July.

"They are not part of the current quarantine hub where AFL officials, players and family members are undertaking the required 14-day quarantine period.

"The Club is not in a position to comment further until the investigation is complete.”
