'Embarrassed': Richmond apologise for 'unacceptable' change-room antics

Richmond players Nick Vlastuin and Jayden Short have apologised for their bizarre post-match antics towards teammate Mabior Chol.

Richmond coach Damian Hardwick cut short a press conference on Friday afternoon after he was asked about the bizarre incident in the club’s locker room last weekend.

Hardwick was asked about footage, which appears to show Vlaustin and Short grabbing the genitals of teammate Chol, by veteran journalist Hugh Riminton.

The clips appear to show Vlaustin grabbing at Chol’s crotch and anus after the win over the Western Bulldogs on July 29, and Short groping Chol after defeating Brisbane on August 4.

When asked by Riminton if he was aware of the incidents, Hardwick replied: “No mate”.

Riminton was persistent in his line of questioning, repeatedly asking for clarification on whether or not Hardwick or anyone else from the club was aware of what had gone on.

Short and Vlaustin apologise to Chol

Hours later, Richmond released a statement claiming the behaviour was “not in line with club or community expectations”.

Vlaustin said: “It was a stupid action and I am deeply embarrassed. I’ve apologised to Mabior.”

Short added: “It was unacceptable behaviour and a poor example.”

Chol said he would not take any further action.

“I have no issue whatsoever with those players, or any of my teammates,” Chol said.

“But (I) understand that is not the sort of example we should be setting.”
