AFL legend Wayne Carey goes public with massive personal news around partner Jessica Paulke

The former North Melbourne captain is celebrating some happy news.

Wayne Carey has revealed he and partner Jessica Paulke are expecting their second child together. The 53-year-old told the Herald Sun he's "incredibly ecstatic" to be expecting another baby in January.

Carey and Paulke have five-year-old son Carter together. "Carter is looking forward to having a sibling in January,” he said. “Mum is healthy and happy.”

Carey and model partner Paulke, 33, reunited last year after they reportedly separated. They are now back living together in Melbourne and over the moon to be expecting again.

As well as son Carter, Carey also has two daughters. He has Ella (18) from his first marriage to Sally McMahon and Charlotte (9) with Stephanie Edwards, with whom he was previously engaged.

“I have had one of the proudest moments a father can have this morning,” Carey said on his podcast last year when Ella completed Year 12. “I went to my beautiful daughter, Ella … she’s about to go into her exams and about to graduate Year 12. Her last assembly was this morning … it was unbelievable. It got me thinking – I reckon she’s the only Carey ever to pass Year 12.”

Carey played 233 games for North Melbourne before leaving the club in disgrace when he was caught cheating with teammate Anthony Stevens' wife. He then moved to the Adelaide Crows and played a further 28 games before retiring.

He has since forged a career in the media, but his role with Channel 7 ended last year. The 53-year-old has been highly critical of the state of the game this year and even went to the extreme of refusing to watch for four weeks when Peter Wright was suspended for the same period.

Speaking earlier this year, Carey spoke for the first time about why he decided to walk out on North Melbourne in 2002 rather than apologise to Stevens. Carey was infamously caught cheating with Stevens' wife Kelli at a party, and decided to quit the club in disgrace just a few days later.

Carey admitted he never even contemplated apologising to Stevens because he simply thought he had to leave the club straight away. “I was really quick to just ring (North Melbourne officials) Geoff Walsh and Greg Miller and rang straight away," he said.

“The thought was, they say fight or flight. But straight away the thought for me was I have got to walk away. There was no other thought in my mind. For those who think I got sacked, that wasn’t the case. I quit straight away. There was no thought. The apology thing never really came into mind at that point. It was just, 'I have to separate myself from the club'.”

Carey was Kangaroos captain at the time, but sat out the 2002 season before joining the Adelaide Crows the year after. Speaking in 2003 on reality TV show 'SAS Australia', Carey described the scandal as the "biggest regret" of his life.

“I slept with a teammate’s wife. It’s haunted me for 20 years," he said. “The affair, it’s the biggest regret of my life as an adult. I’ve done a lot of work, I’m trying to overcome it. People say people can’t change - you haven’t lived in my shoes if you say people can’t change. People can change, they evolve and I’m a perfect example of someone that’s been able to evolve.”
