'What the hell': Fans slam GWS star over 'disgusting' act in AFL grand final

After he was suspended for making unneccesary contact to an opponent’s face in the semi-final, GWS Giants star Toby Greene appears to have done it again.

With two minutes left in the first quarter of the AFL Grand Final, replays showed Greene appearing to put his hands towards the face of Richmond’s Liam Baker.

It’s the third game in a row Greene has sparked controversy by attempting to frustrate opponents with contact to the face.

The crucial midfielder escaped with a fine for his first transgression, which came against the Western Bulldogs in the second elimination final.

He wasn’t as lucky the second time around though, when he appeared to commit a similar act in the semi-final, this time on Brisbane Lions star Lachie Neale.

Despite the vision of the incident with Neale being open to interpretation, Greene was hit with a one match ban by the Match Review Officer, which was then upheld by the AFL Tribunal and the AFL Appeals Board

Fans were left in disbelief after Green once again seemed to zero in on an opponent’s face.

There were shenanigans from both sides in the first quarter, with the Tigers giving away a cheap free kick after laying a crunching tackle on hulking Giants ruckman Shane Mumford.

Tigers captain Trent Cotchin handed the ball back to GWS after shoving Mumford’s head into the turf while the ball was dead.

Giants captain in pre-game drama

Phil Davis has been ruled fit to play in the AFL grand final after an extraordinarily late fitness test at the MCG.

The AFL world was completely engrossed by the sight of the GWS captain heading out onto the ground for one final test just five minutes before teams were officially announced.

Davis looked quite hampered by his dodgy calf.

However there were no late changes when teams dropped at 1pm. Davis was then spotted in an intense conversation with coaching staff in the dressing rooms not long after.

“I can’t believe what I’ve just witnessed,” coaching great Terry Wallace said on AFL Nation.

“I’ve seen some strange ones, but being the captain, having the other captain out, to be doing fitness test out on the ground at this stage, I have never seen anything like it! Huge drama.”
