'Never would': AFL player slams rumours surrounding fiancee

Adam Treloar has slammed speculation he’s set to leave Collingwood after partner Kim Ravaillion signed a new deal to play netball in Queensland.

The rumour mill went into overdrive this week when Ravaillion signed a one-year deal to play with the Queensland Firebirds in 2021.

Ravaillion played Super Netball for Collingwood as recently as 2019, but took this year off for the birth of her child with Treloar.

The Australian Diamonds centre’s club switch sparked speculation Treloar would follow his family north and play in Queensland next year, with the Gold Coast Suns tipped as the most likely suitor.

But Treloar, who is contracted with Collingwood until 2025, says he isn’t going anywhere.

“I never considered going anywhere, and I never would,” Treloar told AFL 360 on Tuesday.

“I'm a contracted player at Collingwood, and there’s a reason why I moved to Victoria to play for Collingwood.

“Never in my mind I've floated about playing for a different team.

“I feel like we’re in a great window. We haven’t won a premiership, which is what I want to win.

“That's the goal and that’s the plan, and that's realistic for us at the footy club.”

Ravaillion, who won two championships with the Queensland Firebirds during her first stint there from 2013-16, said she was looking forward to returning to professional sport.

Treloar and Ravaillion prepared to be apart

Treloar knows it will be tough to be apart, but said it was a decision they made together after much thought.

“It's like people talk to me like I'm a five, six, seven-year old kid and I don't know what I'm doing,” Treloar said.

“Obviously it wasn't an overnight decision, it was something we had spoken about for a long time.

“She made a huge sacrifice for us as a family to start our family in the middle of her prime. We chose to have a child, and she sacrificed her body for that.

“The sacrifice for me is something extremely small, for her to be away and commit to 10 months of playing netball.

“Realistically Kim probably has two or three years of really good netball (left) in her, because we want to keep going with our family.

“I'm extremely proud of her. I've got no doubt there will be challenges and there will be times I miss her dearly, but it's exciting.”

The news that Treloar will stay at Collingwood will be a huge relief to the Magpies, who are still sweating on the future of star forward Jordan De Goey.

De Goey is out of contract and keen on a significant pay rise - something Collingwood might not be able to accommodate.
