'Time to move on': Eddie McGuire announces resignation from Triple M

Eddie McGuire has announced his resignation from Triple M radio, stepping down from the gig after 11 years.

McGuire and co-host Luke Darcy will both quit the popular ‘Hot Breakfast’ show at the end of the month.

The Collingwood chairman said it has been an “honour and privilege” but it was “time to move on.”

“I joined Triple M 32 years ago as a young journo and this year has been a year like no other for all of us,” McGuire told the Herald Sun about his decision.

“We found ourselves able to broadcast six hours a day and on weekends when COVID-19 hit.

“It has also been a true honour and pleasure for us to be with Melbourne every step of the way and the most important year in our show’s history.

“Without listeners radio is nothing.”

According to the Herald Sun, McGuire had always planned to quit the show when his sons finished school.

“Eddie has brought a unique insight into our city every day and side by side with Luke Darcy, Mick Molloy and Wil Anderson, they created one of the great breakfast shows of all time,” Triple M’s Head of Content Mike Fitzpatrick said.

“It’s been a pleasure and a highlight to work with this show and the incredibly talented people, both on and off air, who’ve made it.”

Former AFL player Darcy said: “The last 11 years has been the most enjoyable experience you could imagine.”

Fans of the show were left gutted by the news on social media.

Collingwood keen to move Adam Treloar

Meanwhile, star midfielder Adam Treloar has met with the Western Bulldogs as he moves closer towards an increasingly likely exit from Collingwood before Thursday’s AFL trade deadline.

Treloar, who has five years left on a bumper contract, is resigned to leaving the Magpies as they look to ease salary cap pressure.

The 27-year-old has had serious hamstring issues in the past and is believed to have been set to undergo a medical assessment with the Bulldogs on Tuesday.

He could soon be headed to Whitten Oval on a permanent basis.

Collingwood would likely have to play a portion of Treloar’s salary - which is reportedly in the region of $900,000 a year - to get the deal done and free up space in their cap.

Treloar’s fiancee, Kim Ravaillion, will play the Super Netball season with the Queensland Firebirds next season.

But Treloar wants to play football in Melbourne at a club capable of achieving premiership success.

Few Victorian clubs have expressed serious interest in trading for him, largely due to his hefty price tag.
