Telstra reveals outage cause as customers fume
Telstra customers have expressed frustration as they struggle to make phone calls.
Telstra said the cause of an outage that meant customers could not make calls was due to a software update.
The Australian telco giant thanked frustrated customers for their patience before reporting the outage had been resolved about 2.30pm Tuesday.
"The issue was caused by a software change and was fixed by rolling that back. We're sorry for the impact on people's days," a Telstra spokesperson told Yahoo Finance.
Many had flocked to social media to report the network "falling over", with issues ranging from being unable to hear anything when a call connected to dropouts and connectivity issues.

"I am trying to run a business - can you please fix your ‘update’ so I can hear people trying to call me?" a customer said.
"I’m experiencing this issue and my work is losing thousands of dollars - then you have the gall to have someone from your sales team call me to try and upsell me to a higher plan?" added another.

Others had struggled to get in contact with family members on the same plans.
"I can’t call my elderly mother. She can’t hear me and I can’t hear her. Absolutely ridiculous," a customer said.
Consumers reported a lag in Telstra's outage website being updated, but many were being replied to directly on X.
"We are aware of an issue where some customers nationally may experience issues when using 3G/4G/5G internet data and voice service on their mobile," Telstra said.
"Mobile data isn’t affected so other ways of calling, like FaceTime/WhatsApp/Messenger, can still work."
Unlike last year's Optus outage - which resulted in CEO Kelly Bayer Rosmarin resigning and a significant fine - Triple-0 calls were not impacted, the Telstra spokesperson said.
