Yahoo Finance NSW Dine and Discover vouchers extended to July
NSW’s Dine and Discover scheme will be extended until the end of July to coincide with the school holidays, the state government confirmed on Wednesday.
The Dine and Discover voucher gives all eligible NSW residents access to two $25 vouchers that can be used at participating hospitality businesses and another two $25 vouchers to be spent on entertainment and recreation.
They were previously scheduled to expire at the end of June, however the government has revealed that of the 16.9 million vouchers downloaded, only 7.4 million have been used.
The vouchers were first rolled out in March in a bid to stimulate the NSW economy in the wake of the COVID-19 lockdowns.
“This is helping to fire-up our economy,” NSW Treasurer Dominic Perrottet said.
“It’s not just boosting revenue for businesses, it’s bringing a fresh clientele through their doors eager to try a new eatery or exciting activity.”
The average diner spends $41 for every $25 voucher used, with more than 5 million vouchers being used for food and drinks. Another 2.1 million have been used at the movies while 370,000 vouchers have been used at museums and galleries.
Most of the vouchers have so far been spent in the city, with more than 1.1 million used in the City of Sydney region, followed by nearly 700,000 in Blacktown and 240,000 on the Central Coast.
Minister for Digital and Customer Service Victor Dominello said the low uptake was due to NSW residents’ tendency to “cram a lot into life, sometimes leaving things to the last minute”.
“With about two in every three adults across NSW having now registered for the vouchers, having such a large portion of the NSW population on board means we can get money back into the community quickly,” he said.
How do I access the Dine and Discover vouchers?
If you’re a NSW resident aged over 18, you can apply for the vouchers through the Service NSW website or through the Service NSW app.
You’ll need your MyServiceNSW account and two identity documents, like a Medicare card or licence.
Once you’ve successfully applied, the vouchers will appear in the Service NSW app.
