Job hunting can be difficult at the best of times, but when you’re a parent, it can be even harder to juggle that with the needs of your child.

It’s also tough to try and explain to prospective employers that you’re running late, or can’t attend an interview, at the last minute.

But, that’s exactly what one New Zealand mother had to do when her little one needed to be urgently picked up from daycare.

In a viral LinkedIn post that’s been liked 87,630 times, and received 3,205 comments, a recruiter shared a heart-warming story of how she helped a job candidate ace her interview - even though she cancelled an hour before.

“Today I get a phone call from my candidate 30 minutes before her interview, saying that daycare had called and she had to go pick up her little one and wasn’t going to make the interview,” the recruiter explained.

“With a very flexible client, we rebooked her interview for an hour later and I drove out to the site to meet her.”

“I am now with her little one watching Peppa Pig and singing toy story songs while my candidate aces her interview!“

“Sometimes you have to step out of your ordinary duties, to help others.”

“I now have a very thankful candidate and a happy client.”

The post showed employers are having a change of heart, and are a little more sympathetic to personal circumstances than we might think.

Comments on the post were overwhelmingly positive, with some wishing that they had a recruiter on the other end helping them out in their own times of need.

“From all the mummas out there, thank you!” One comment read.

Another comment showed how some employers weren’t as nice.

“That’s awesome! I had an interview with a company this year and terrible storms made me late.”

“Upon arrival HR says since your late the management looks down on that so we won’t be moving forward with your interview.”
