Two Aussie best friends have revealed the fun and easy way they have made more than $200 for just two hours of work. The Melbourne women were hanging out at home on a Saturday night when they discovered they could make extra cash by completing “side quests” on Airtasker.

Charlotte Cussell, 22, and Kaitlin Domski, 28, originally posted an ad on the platform looking for someone to pick up a couch for them. But when they started browsing the platform, they realised they could actually do some of the tasks themselves.

“It was Saturday night and we were just sitting in bed with our face masks on and we just saw tasks pop up on Airtasker,” Cussell told Yahoo Finance.

“We figured it was a good way to make some extra cash and it was something fun to do on our Saturday. So we got out of bed and applied for some tasks.”

The best friends ended up applying for a task to pick up a desk from IKEA and drop it off to someone who lived nearby in Armadale. They said they thought of it like a “side quest”, or a fun little side mission for them to complete.

The task took about an hour to do and they said the “spontaneous” adventure ended up being “a lot of fun”.

“We just had a laugh doing it. Normally on our Saturday nights, we’re spending money,” Domski told Yahoo Finance.

“So we thought let’s change it up, we’re not going to go for dinner, we’re not going to go for drinks, we’re just gonna make some money.”

The friends said they were able to make “easy money” by completing the task and were paid $70, including a $10 tip, which they split between themselves.

They enjoyed it so much, they applied for another task the next morning potting someone’s plants. They said this took about an hour as well and they were paid $150.

Airtasker founder and CEO Tim Fung welcomed the trend.

“It’s exciting to see how the idea of ‘side quests’ is being embraced by the younger generation, turning everyday tasks into fun, spontaneous adventures,” Fung said.

“With Airtasker, people can browse through these quests and make extra cash at the same time. It’s a perfect fit for those looking to turn boredom into opportunities, and this shows the creativity and flexibility that Airtasker can offer.”

Cussell and Domski said the tasks were a good way to earn extra cash with your friends.

“It’s a great way for people to make some extra cash on the weekends or if they are saving for something. There are so many different tasks you can do, it’s so broad,” Cussell said.

She recommended people be honest about whether or not they were able to complete the task before they committed and to be “realistic” with prices.

“Have a profile where there is a photo of you or create a little logo,” she advised.

Domski recommended young people do it with a friend if they were going out to people’s homes to make sure everything was safe.
