Check your accounts: CommBank offers $50 ‘sorry’ cash
Commonwealth Bank customers may be $50 richer after an outage left many unable to access Netbank on Wednesday.
The outage meant some were unable to receive income or pay bills until late on Wednesday night.
However, customers on Friday night began to pay attention to their Commonwealth Bank accounts for a different reason: $50 payments.
Hey @CommBank I just got $50 and a sorry message. What’s the $50 for? Cheers anyway! 🍺😅 pic.twitter.com/eAIuMyK7Pr

Customers began receiving the cash on Friday afternoon, along with an email apologising for the outage.
Anyone else just get $50.00 from @CommBank saying ‘Sorry from Commbank’? Appreciated but I’d rather your system didn’t go down instead. pic.twitter.com/0vJFdqBqyi

Other customers took to Twitter disgruntled that they had not received the sorry payments.
Hi, just wondering why I have had friends receive a $50 sorry compensation from commbank? Will this be for everyone? I was left stuck at a petrol station due to services being down. Thanks

I see you’re giving out $50 sorry cash. You better not be picky and choosy and I hope it’s to everyone! Twice now we have been affected by your meltdowns.

Responding to customers, the bank said it was reviewing the payments on a case by case basis.
“We have made a $50 goodwill payment to customers who were significantly impacted by recent technology outages in the last week,” a CBA spokesperson said in a statement.
“We’re very sorry about this and to apologise we have made a goodwill gesture payment into customer accounts who have been significantly impacted.
“No action is required to receive the payment.”
Customers who were impacted by the outage were told to contact the bank and their cases would be reviewed.
This isn’t the first time the major bank has chosen to offer ‘sorry’ cash to smooth over outages. The bank deposited $50 into customers accounts in 2019 following a similar outage.
